ઉંદરની ટોપી

એક ઉંદર હતો. એને રસ્તા પરથી એક સરસ મજાનો કાપડનો ટુકડો મળ્યો. એને થયું, લાવ ને આની મજાની ટોપી બનાવું. એ તો કાપડનો ટુકડો લઈને પહોંચ્યો દરજી પાસે.

ઉંદર દરજીને કહે, "દરજીભાઈ, દરજીભાઈ, મને ટોપી સીવી આપો".

દરજી કહે, "જા. જા. તારા જેવા ઉંદર માટે ટોપી સીવવા મારી પાસે સમય નથી".

ઉંદર કહે, "એમ? તો સિપાહી કો બુલાઉંગા. બડે માર દેઉંગા. ખડે તમાશા દેખુંગા" - એટલે કે, "સિપાહીને બોલાવીશ. બરાબરનો માર ખવરાવીશ. ઉભો ઉભો તમાશો જોઇશ".

દરજી તો ડરી ગયો. એ ઉંદરને કહે, "ના ના ભાઈ. એવું ન કરીશ. લાવ તારી ટોપી સીવી આપું છું".

એણે સરસ મજાની ટોપી સીવી આપી. ઉંદર તો રાજી રાજી થઇ ગયો. પછી એને થયું કે આવી મજાની ટોપી પર ભરત ભર્યું હોય તો કેવું સારું લાગે?

એ તો ઉપડ્યો ભરત ભરવાવાળા પાસે. જઈને કહે, "ભાઈ, મને મારી આ ટોપી પર મજાનું ભરત ભરી આપ".

ભરત ભરવાવાળો કહે, "જા. જા. તારા જેવા ઉંદર માટે ભરત ભરવા મારી પાસે સમય નથી".

ઉંદર કહે, "એમ? તો સિપાહી કો બુલાઉંગા. બડે માર દેઉંગા. ખડે તમાશા દેખુંગા".

ભરત ભરવાવાળો તો ડરી ગયો. એ ઉંદરને કહે, "ના ના ભાઈ. એવું ન કરીશ. લાવ તારી ટોપીને ભરત ભરી આપું છું".

ઉંદર રાજી રાજી થઇ ગયો. પછી એને થયું કે આવી મજાની ભરત ભરેલી ટોપી પર મોતી ટાંક્યાં હોય તો કેવું સારું લાગે?

એ તો ઉપડ્યો મોતી ટાંકવાવાળા પાસે. જઈને કહે, "ભાઈ, મને મારી આ ટોપી પર સરસ મજાના મોતી ટાંકી આપ".

મોતી ટાંકવાવાળો કહે, "જા. જા. તારા જેવા ઉંદર માટે મોતી ટાંકવા મારી પાસે સમય નથી".

ઉંદર કહે, "એમ? તો સિપાહી કો બુલાઉંગા. બડે માર દેઉંગા. ખડે તમાશા દેખુંગા".

મોતી ટાંકવાવાળો તો ડરી ગયો. એ ઉંદરને કહે, "ના ના ભાઈ. એવું ન કરીશ. લાવ તારી ટોપીને મોતી ટાંકી આપું છું".

ઉંદર એકદમ ગેલમાં આવી ગયો અને નાચવા કુદવા લાગ્યો.

ત્યાં રાજાના સિપાહીઓ આવ્યા અને ઉંદરને કહે, "એય ઉંદરડા, આઘો ખસ અહીંથી. રાજાની સવારી નીકળે છે".

ઉંદર સિપાહીઓને કહે, "નહીં ખસું. રાજાની ટોપી કરતાં તો મારી ટોપી વધારે સારી છે".

આ સાંભળીને રાજા ચિડાઈ ગયો. એણે સિપાહીઓને કહ્યું કે, "આ ઉંદરની ટોપી લઇ લ્યો".

ઉંદર ગાવા લાગ્યો, "રાજા ભિખારી... રાજા ભિખારી. મારી ટોપી લઇ લીધી...મારી ટોપી લઇ લીધી...".

રાજાએ સિપાહીને કહ્યું, "આની ટોપી પાછી આપી દો. મને ભિખારી કહે છે".

સિપાહીઓએ ઉંદરને એની ટોપી પાછી આપી દીધી.

ઉંદર ગાવા લાગ્યો, "રાજા મારાથી ડરી ગયો...રાજા મારાથી ડરી ગયો..."

આમ નાચતો, ગાતો એની ટોપી પહેરીને ઉંદર એના ઘરે ગયો.

ખોડ ખોડ દાળીયો દે

એક છોકરો દાળિયા ઉછાળીને ખાતો હતો. એમાં એક દાળીયો ખોડ (છાપરા)માં પડ્યો.

છોકરો કહે, "ખોડ ખોડ, દાળીયો દે".

ખોડ કહે, "જા. નહીં દઉં".

છોકરો તો ઉપડ્યો સુથાર પાસે. એ સુથારને કહે, "સુથાર, સુથાર, ખોડ કાપ".

સુથાર કહે, "જા. નહીં કાપું”.

છોકરો તો ગયો રાજા પાસે. એ રાજાને કહે, "રાજા, રાજા, સુથારને દંડ દે".

રાજા કહે, "જા. નહીં દઉં".

છોકરો ગયો રાણી પાસે. છોકરો રાણીને કહે, "રાણી, રાણી, રાજાથી રિસાઈ જા".

રાણી કહે, "જા. નહીં રિસાઉં".

છોકરો ઉપડ્યો ઉંદર પાસે. એ ઉંદરને કહે, "ઉંદર, ઉંદર, રાણીના ચીર કાપ".

ઉંદર કહે, "જા. નહીં કાપું".

છોકરો ગયો બિલાડી પાસે. એ બિલાડીને કહે, "બિલાડી, બિલાડી, ઉંદરને માર".

બિલાડી કહે, "જા. નહીં મારું".

છોકરો ગયો કુતરા પાસે. એ કુતરાને કહે, "કુતરા, કુતરા, બિલાડીને માર".

કુતરો કહે,"જા. નહીં મારું".

છોકરો ગયો લાકડી પાસે. એ લાકડીને કહે, "લાકડી, લાકડી, કુતરાને માર".

લાકડી કહે, "જા. નહીં મારું".

છોકરો ઉપડ્યો આગ પાસે. એ આગને કહે, "આગ, આગ, લાકડીને બાળ".

આગ કહે, "જા. નહીં બાળું".

છોકરો ગયો પાણી પાસે. એ પાણીને કહે, "પાણી, પાણી, આગ બુઝાવ".

પાણી કહે, "જા. નહીં બુઝાવું".

છોકરો ગયો હાથી પાસે. એ હાથીને કહે, "હાથી, હાથી, પાણી સુકવ".

હાથી કહે, "જા. નહીં સુકવું".

છોકરો ઉપડ્યો મચ્છર પાસે. એ મચ્છરને કહે, "મચ્છર, મચ્છર, હાથીના કાનમાં બેસી જા".

મચ્છર તો હાથીના કાનમાં બેસવા લાગ્યું! હાથી કહે, "અરે! અરે! મારા કાનમાં ન બેસ. હું પાણી સુકવું છું".

પાણી કહે, "ના ભાઈ, મને સુકાવીશ નહીં. હું આગ બુઝાવું છું".

આગ કહે, "ના ના. મને બુઝાવશો નહીં. હું લાકડી બાળું છું".

લાકડી કહે, "ના મને બાળીશ નહીં. હું કુતરાને મારું છું".

કુતરો કહે, "ના ભાઈ, મને મારશો નહીં. હું બિલાડીને મારીશ".

બિલાડી કહે, "ના મને ન મારશો. હું ઉંદરને મારું છું".

ઉંદર કહે, "ના ના. હું રાણીના ચીર કાપીશ".

રાણી કહે, "ના ભાઈ, ચીર ન કાપીશ. હું રાજાથી રિસાઉં છું". રાજા રાણીને કહે, "ના રિસાઈશ નહીં. હું સુથારને દંડ દઈશ".

સુથાર કહે, "ના ના. હું ખોડ કાપી આપીશ". ખોડ કહે, "ના મને ન કાપીશ. હું છોકરાને એનો દાળીયો આપું છું".

છોકરાને એનો દાળીયો મળી ગયો!

સસ્સા રાણા સાંકળિયા

એક ગામ પાસે જંગલમાં એક બાવાજી ઝુંપડી બનાવી રહેતા હતા અને એક નાના મંદિરમાં પૂજા પાઠ કરતા હતા. બાવાજી રોજ જંગલમાંથી તાજાં, પાકાં ફળો અને શાકભાજી લઇ આવતા.

એક વાર બાવાજી જંગલમાં ગયા હતા ત્યારે એક સસલાભાઈ એમની ઝુંપડીએ આવી પહોંચ્યા. તાજાં, પાકાં ફળો, શાકભાજી જોઇને સસ્સાભાઈ તો રાજી રાજી થઇ ગયા. એ તો બાવાજીની ઝુપડીમાં ઘુસી ગયા અને અંદરથી બારણું બંધ કરી દીધું. પછી નિરાંતે ફળો અને શાકભાજી ખાવા લાગ્યા.

થોડી વારે બાવાજી આવ્યા તો એમણે જોયું કે ઝુંપડીનું બારણું બંધ છે. બાવાજીએ વિચાર્યું કે અહીં જંગલમાં એમની ઝુપડીમાં કોણ ઘુસી ગયું હશે? એમણે બારણું ખટખટાવી પૂછ્યું, "ભાઈ, અંદર કોણ છે?"

સસ્સાભાઈ અવાજ ઘેરો કરી બોલ્યા,

"એ તો સસ્સા રાણા સાંકળિયા,

ડાબે પગે ડામ.

ભાગ બાવા નહીંતર તારી તુંબડી તોડી નાખું..."

બાવાજી તો ગભરાઈ ગયા અને જાય ભાગ્યા ગામ ભણી. ગામ પાસેના ખેતરના ખેડૂત પટેલ સામે મળ્યા.

પટેલે બાવાજીને પૂછ્યું, "બાવાજી, આમ ગભરાયેલા કેમ છો? કેમ ભાગો છો?"

બાવાજીએ પટેલને સસ્સા રાણા વાળી વાત કરી. પટેલ કહે, "ચાલો, હું તમારી સાથે આવું".

પટેલ બાવાજીની ઝુંપડીએ ગયા અને બારણું ખટખટાવી પૂછ્યું, "અંદર કોણ છે?"

સસ્સાભાઈ અવાજ ઘેરો કરી બોલ્યા,

"એ તો સસ્સા રાણા સાંકળિયા,

ડાબે પગે ડામ.

ભાગ પટેલ નહીંતર તારી તુંબડી તોડી નાખું..."

પટેલે આવું કૌતુક ક્યારેય નહોતું જોયું એટલે એ પણ ગભરાયા અને ભાગ્યા. એમણે ગામના મુખીને બોલાવ્યા. ગામના મુખી બાવાજીની ઝુંપડીએ ગયા અને બારણું ખટખટાવી પૂછ્યું, "અંદર કોણ છે?"

સસ્સાભાઈ અવાજ ઘેરો કરી બોલ્યા,

"એ તો સસ્સા રાણા સાંકળિયા,

ડાબે પગે ડામ.

ભાગ મુખી નહીંતર તારી તુંબડી તોડી નાખું..."

મુખી પણ ગભરાયા. બધા મૂંઝાયા કે આ વળી સસ્સા રાણા કોણ છે? આવો અવાજ કોનો છે?

બધાએ બાવાજીને કહ્યું, "તમે આજે ઝુંપડીમાં ન જાવ. આજની રાત ગામમાં જ રહો". બાવાજી એમની ઝુંપડી છોડી ગામમાં સુવા જતા રહ્યા.

સસ્સાભાઈને તો બહુ મજા પડી ગઈ. એમણે તો ધરાઈને ખાધું અને પછી નિરાંતે સુઈ ગયા. સવારે ઝુંપડી છોડી જંગલમાં જતા રહ્યા.

આ વાતની શિયાળભાઈને ખબર પડી. એકવાર બાવાજી બહાર ગયા હતા ત્યારે શિયાળભાઈ એમની ઝુંપડીમાં ઘુસી ગયા. બાવાજીએ આવીને જોયું કે ફરી વાર કોઈ ઝુંપડીમાં ઘુસી ગયું છે.

બાવાજીએ પટેલને અને મુખીને બોલાવ્યા. બધાએ બારણું ખટખટાવી પૂછ્યું, "અંદર કોણ છે?"

શિયાળભાઈ બોલ્યા,

"એ તો શિયાળભાઈ સાંકળિયા.

ડાબે પગે ડામ.

ભાગ બાવા. નહીતર તારી તુંબડી તોડી નાંખું".

બધા શિયાળભાઈનો અવાજ ઓળખી ગયા. "અરે આ તો શિયાળવું છે".

બધાએ ભેગા મળી બારણું તોડી નાખ્યું. અંદર જઈ શિયાળને બરાબરનો મેથીપાક આપ્યો!

શિયાળભાઈ તો જાય ભાગ્યા જંગલમાં.

હજી સુધી શિયાળભાઈને એ નથી સમજાયું કે સસ્સાભાઈ કેમ ન પકડાયા અને પોતે કેમ ઓળખાઈ ગયા?

મા મને છમ્મ વડું...

એક ગામ હતું. એમાં એક ગરીબ માણસ રહેતો હતો. એને સાત દીકરીઓ હતી. ગરીબ માણસ પાસે કાંઈ જ કામ નહોતું. એ રોજ ભિક્ષા માંગીને ખાતો - ખવરાવતો.

એક દિવસ એને ભિક્ષામાં થોડો લોટ મળ્યો. એને થયું કે ઘણા દિવસથી વડાં નથી ખાધાં તો લાવ આજે વડાં ખાઈએ. પરંતુ લોટ વધારે ન હોવાથી ઘરના બધા જ માટે વડાં ન બની શકે. એટલે એણે એની પત્નીને કહ્યું કે દીકરીઓ સુઈ જાય પછી વડાં બનાવજે.

રાત પડી અને દીકરીઓ સુઈ ગઈ. પછી એમની માએ વડાં બનાવવા માંડ્યાં. વડાં બનાવતાં ગરમ તેલમાં લોટ પડે ત્યારે છમ્મ એવો અવાજ થાય. છમ્મ સાંભળીને સૌથી મોટી દીકરી જાગી ગઈ.

એ તરત રસોડામાં ગઈ અને બોલી, "મા મને છમ્મ વડું...".

માએ ના છુટકે એને વડું આપવું પડ્યું.

પછી માએ બીજું વડું બનાવ્યું તો એનો છમ્મ અવાજ સાંભળીને બીજી દીકરી જાગી ગઈ અને એણે પણ મા પાસે જઈ કહ્યું, "મા મને છમ્મ વડું...". માએ ના છુટકે એને વડું આપવું પડ્યું.

આમ કરતાં સાતેય દીકરીઓએ એક એક વડું ખાઈ લીધું. એમના બાપને બિચારાને એક પણ વડું ન મળ્યું. એ તો ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયો. માંડ માંડ વડાં ખાવા મળતાં હતાં અને દીકરીઓ ખાઈ ગઈ. એ તો સાતેય દીકરીઓને લઈને જંગલમાં મૂકી આવ્યો.

છ બહેનો તો એક ઝાડ પર ચડી ગઈ પણ નાની બહેન ઝાડ પર ન ચડી શકી. એ દુર દુર દોડવા માંડી. એણે એક સરસ મજાનું મકાન જોયું. એણે મકાનમાં અંદર જઈ જોયું તો ખુબ સારું સારું ખાવા પીવાનું હતું. એ તો એકદમ રાજી રાજી થઇ ગઈ. નાચવા કુદવા લાગી. એણે તરત જ એની છ બહેનોને બોલાવી. સાતેય બહેનો મકાનમાં રહેવા લાગી. સારું સારું ખાઈ-પીને એકદમ ગુલાબી અને તંદુરસ્ત દેખાવા લાગી.

આ બાજુ એમના બાપને ખુબ પસ્તાવો થયો કે, "અરેરે. હું કેવો બાપ છું. મારી દીકરીઓએ વડાં ખાધાં એમાં ગુસ્સે થઈને એમને જંગલમાં મૂકી આવ્યો. મારી દીકરીઓનું શું થતું હશે?"

એ તો દોડતો જંગલમાં ગયો. ત્યાં એણે જોયું કે એની સાતેય દીકરીઓ એક સરસ મકાનમાં આનંદથી રહેતી હતી. સારું સારું ખાઈ-પીને ગુલાબી અને તંદુરસ્ત થઇ ગઈ હતી. એ ખુબ જ ખુશ થઇ ગયો. દીકરીઓને ભેટી પડ્યો. પછી એણે ઘણું બધું ખાવાનું લીધું અને દીકરીઓને લઈને ઘરે આવી ગયો.

ટચુકિયા ભાઈ

એક ગામમાં એક ઘરડાં માજી રહેતાં હતાં. એમને કોઈ બાળકો નહોતા. માજી એકલાં રહેતાં હતાં. એક દિવસ માજી જંગલમાં શાકભાજી લેવા ગયાં. એમણે એક ફણસ તોડ્યું. ઘરે આવીને ફણસ કાપ્યું તો એમાંથી એક બાળક નીકળ્યું. માજીએ એનું નામ સાંગો પાડ્યું. માજી એને ઉછેરવા લાગ્યા. એક દિવસ ફણસમાંથી બીજો છોકરો નીકળ્યો. માજીએ એનું નામ સરવણ પાડ્યું.

ફરી એક દિવસ માજીને ફણસમાંથી બાળક મળ્યું. માજીએ એનું નામ લાખો પાડ્યું. એ પછી પણ ફણસમાંથી બાળક નીકળ્યું એનું નામ લખમણ પાડ્યું. માજી ચાર દીકરાને ઉછેરવા લાગ્યા. થોડા વખત પછી ફરી એક વાર ફણસમાંથી એક બાળક નીકળ્યું. આ બાળક સાવ ટચુકિયો હતો! એનું નામ ટચુકિયા ભાઈ પાડ્યું. માજી અને આ પાંચ દીકરા સુખથી રહેવા લાગ્યા.

એક દિવસ માજી જંગલમાંથી જતાં હતાં ત્યાં સિંહ મળ્યો.

સિંહ માજીને કહે, "માજી, હું તમને ખાઈ જઈશ".

માજી સિંહને કહે, "અરે ભાઈ, મને ઘરડીને શું ખાઇશ? હું મારા તાજા માજા દીકરા ટચુકિયાને મોકલું છું. એને ખાજે".

સિંહ કહે, "ભલે, તો મોકલો તમારા ટચુકિયાને".

માજી જાણતા હતાં કે ટચુકિયો બહુ જ ચાલાક છે. એ જરૂર કોઈ રસ્તો કાઢશે.

માજીએ ઘરે જઈને ટચુકિયા ભાઈને કહ્યું કે જંગલમાં સિંહ મામા રહે છે. એ તમને મળવા બોલાવે છે.

"ટચુકિયા ભાઈ રે, મામા ઘરે જાજો..."

ટચુકિયાભાઈ સમજી ગયા કે સિંહમામા કાંઈ અમસ્તા મળવા ન બોલાવે. એ કહે,

"ના મા, મામા મને ખાય..."

માજીએ ટચુકિયા ભાઈને કહ્યું કે તમે કોઈ રસ્તો શોધો અને આપણને બધાંને સિંહથી બચાવો.

ટચુકિયાભાઈએ માજીને કહ્યું કે તમે સિંહને કહો કે આપણે ઘરે જ જમવા આવે.

માજી જંગલમાં ગયાં. સિંહે માજીને કહ્યું, "કેમ, તમારો ટચુકિયો ન આવ્યો? હવે હું તમને ખાઉં".

માજીએ સિંહને કહ્યું કે, "સિંહભાઈ, તમે અમારા ઘરે જ જમવા આવોને? મારે પાંચ દીકરા છે".

સિંહને થયું, "આ સારું. માજીને ઘરે જઈશ તો માજી અને એના પાંચ દીકરા એમ છ માણસ ખાવા મળશે".

સિંહ તો માજીને ઘરે ગયો. પાંચેય દીકરા સાથે ખુબ વાતો કરી. પછી માજીએ સિંહને કહ્યું કે, "સિંહભાઈ, તમે શું જમશો?"

સિંહ કહે,

"પહેલાં તો ખાશું સાંગો ને સરવણ.

પછી તો ખાશું લાખો ને લખમણ.

પછી તો ખાશું ટચુકિયા ભાઈને.

છેલ્લે ખાશું ડોહલી બાઈને..."

ટચુકિયાભાઈ સિંહને કહે, "મામા, એટલા જલ્દી અમને ન ખાશો. પહેલાં અમારી એક વાર્તા સાંભળો". આમ કહી એમણે સિંહને વાત કહી કે અમે પાંચ ભાઈ ભેગા મળીને કોઈને કેવી રીતે મારીએ અને પછી ગાવા લાગ્યા,

"હાથડા તો જાલશે સાંગો ને સરવણ.

પગડા તો જાલશે લાખો ને લખમણ.

ગળું તો કાપશે ટચુકિયા ભાઈ.

દીવડો તો જાલશે ડોહલી બાઈ…"

સિંહને થયું, "ઓ બાપ રે! આ બધા ભેગા મળી જાય તો મને આવી રીતે મારી શકે. તો ચાલ ભાઈ, ભાગ અહીંથી..."

સિંહ તો જાય ભાગ્યો...

ટચુકિયાભાઈ બુમ પાડીને કહે, "અરે સિંહમામા, જમ્યા વગર કેમ ભાગ્યા?"

પછી માજી અને પાંચેય દીકરા મજાથી રહેવા લાગ્યા.

ચકી બાઈ એક મુંડાય રાજા કુટુંબ મુંડાય

એક રાજાના મહેલમાં એક ચકલી રહેતી હતી. એક દિવસ રાજા સભા ભરીને બેઠો હતો. ચકલી રાજાના માથા ઉપરથી ઉડી અને ભૂલથી એની ચરક રાજાના માથા ઉપર પડી!

રાજા ખુબ જ ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયો. એણે એના સિપાઈઓને હુકમ કર્યો કે ચકલીને પકડીને એનું માથું મુંડી નાંખો. ચકલીને ઘણું લાગી આવ્યું. એણે રાજાને બરાબરનો પાઠ ભણાવવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. એ યોગ્ય તક મળે એની રાહ જોવા લાગી.

એક દિવસ રાજા મંદિર ગયો. એ ભગવાનને પગે લાગીને પ્રાર્થના કરવા લાગ્યો, "હે ભગવાન! મારા પર દયા કરજો".

ચકલી ભગવાનની મૂર્તિ પાછળ છુપાઈ ગઈ અને અવાજ કાઢ્યો, "જા રે રાજા! ભાગ! હું તારા પર દયા નહીં કરું".

રાજાએ પૂછ્યું, "એવું કેમ ભગવાન?"

ચકલી બોલી, "પહેલાં તારું માથું મુંડાવ".

રાજાએ ઘરે જઈને માથું મુંડાવ્યું. પછી પાછો મંદિર આવ્યો અને પ્રાર્થના કરવા લાગ્યો, "હે ભગવાન! મારા પર દયા કરજો".

ચકલી ભગવાનની મૂર્તિ પાછળ છુપાઈ ગઈ અને અવાજ કાઢ્યો, "જા રે રાજા! ભાગ! હું તારા પર દયા નહીં કરું".

રાજાએ પૂછ્યું, "એવું કેમ ભગવાન?"

ચકલી બોલી, "પહેલાં તારી રાણીનું માથું મુંડાવ".

રાજાએ ઘરે જઈને રાણીનું માથું મુંડાવ્યું. પછી પાછો મંદિર આવ્યો અને પ્રાર્થના કરવા લાગ્યો, "હે ભગવાન! મારા પર દયા કરજો".

ચકલી ભગવાનની મૂર્તિ પાછળ છુપાઈ ગઈ અને અવાજ કાઢ્યો, "જા રે રાજા! ભાગ! હું તારા પર દયા નહીં કરું".

રાજાએ પૂછ્યું, "એવું કેમ ભગવાન?"

ચકલી બોલી, "પહેલાં તારા કુંવરનું માથું મુંડાવ".

રાજાએ ઘરે જઈને કુંવરનું માથું મુંડાવ્યું. પછી પાછો મંદિર આવ્યો અને પ્રાર્થના કરવા લાગ્યો, "હે ભગવાન! મારા પર દયા કરજો".

ચકલી ભગવાનની મૂર્તિ પાછળ છુપાઈ ગઈ અને અવાજ કાઢ્યો, "જા રે રાજા! ભાગ! હું તારા પર દયા નહીં કરું".

રાજાએ પૂછ્યું, "એવું કેમ ભગવાન?"

ચકલી બોલી, "પહેલાં તારી કુંવરીનું માથું મુંડાવ".

રાજાએ ઘરે જઈને કુંવરીનું માથું મુંડાવ્યું. પછી પાછો મંદિર આવ્યો અને પ્રાર્થના કરવા લાગ્યો, "હે ભગવાન! મારા પર દયા કરજો".

આ વખતે ચકલી ભગવાનની મૂર્તિ પાછળથી બહાર આવીને ગાવા લાગી,

"ચકીબાઈ એક મુંડાય, રાજા કુટુંબ મુંડાય..."

"ચકીબાઈ એક મુંડાય, રાજા કુટુંબ મુંડાય..."

"ચકીબાઈ એક મુંડાય, રાજા કુટુંબ મુંડાય..."

ચકીબાઈને મજા પડી ગઈ. એણે રાજા સાથે મીઠો બદલો લીધો અને પાઠ ભણાવ્યો કે ક્યારેય કોઈનું અપમાન ન કરવું જોઈએ.

લપોડ શંખ

એક ગામમાં બે મિત્રો રહેતા હતા. એક ઘણો ગરીબ અને સાદો-ભોળો હતો. એણે ભગવાન શંકરનું તપ કર્યું અને પોતાને થોડી સંપત્તિ આપવા પ્રાર્થના કરી. શિવજીએ એને એક શંખ આપ્યો અને રોજ એ શંખની પૂજા કરવા કહ્યું.

આ ગરીબ માણસ રોજ શંખની પૂજા કરતો. રોજ શંખ એને એક સોનામહોર આપતો. આ રીતે રોજ એક સોનામહોર મળતી હોવાથી એ ઘણો ધનિક બની ગયો!

એના મિત્રએ એને આમ એકદમ ધનિક બની જવાનું રહસ્ય પૂછ્યું. ભોળા મિત્રએ એને બધું કહી દીધું. એનો આ મિત્ર લોભી હતો. એણે શિવજીનો શંખ પડાવી લેવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. એણે શિવજીના શંખ જેવો દેખાતો એક બીજો શંખ મેળવી લીધો. એક રાત એ એના મિત્રને ઘરે રહ્યો અને શિવજીના શંખની સાથે પોતાના શંખની અદલા બદલી કરી નાંખી!

બીજે દિવસે ભોળા મિત્રએ શંખની પૂજા કરી ત્યારે શંખે કશું ન આપ્યું. એણે શિવજીની પ્રાર્થના કરી અને પૂછ્યું કે એની સાથે આવું કેમ બન્યું? શિવજીએ એને બીજો એક શંખ આપ્યો અને કહ્યું કે આ શંખ એની પાસેની વસ્તુને બમણી કરી આપશે! ભોળા મિત્રએ આ વાત એના મિત્રને કરી. લોભી મિત્ર શિવજીનો ચમત્કારી શંખ પાછો લઇ આવ્યો અને એને આ નવા શંખ સાથે બદલાવી નાંખ્યો. એ નવો શંખ લઇ ગયો.

લોભી મિત્રએ નવા શંખની પૂજા કરી અને પોતાની સંપત્તિ બમણી કરી આપવા કહ્યું. પરંતુ એને કશું જ ન મળ્યું! આપણા ભોળા મિત્રને તો શિવજીનો મૂળ ચમત્કારી શંખ પાછો મળી ગયો હતો એટલે એણે એ શંખની પૂજા કરી ત્યારે એને સોનામહોર મળવા લાગી!

લોભી મિત્ર રડવા લાગ્યો અને શંખને "લપોડ શંખ" કહી એનો ઘા કરી દીધો!

રંગીલા રળિયા કાકા

એક ગામમાં રળિયા નામનો એક માણસ રહેતો હતો. એ ઘણો જ વિનમ્ર હતો. તેનો સ્વભાવ ઘણો આનંદી હતો એટલે લોકો તેને "રંગીલા રળિયા કાકા" કહેતા.

એક દિવસ બે છોકરીઓ તેલ ભરેલી બરણી લઈને શેરીમાંથી જઈ રહી હતી. એક છોકરી બીજી છોકરીને એના કુટુંબની સમસ્યાઓ વિષે કહેતી હતી. એના પપ્પાની તબિયત સારી નહોતી રહેતી, મમ્મી ચિંતામાં જ રહેતી, ભાઈ પરીક્ષામાં નાપાસ થયા કરતો. તે એના ઘરની શાંતી માટે કાંઈ પણ કરવા તૈયાર હતી.

રળિયા કાકા છોકરીઓની પાછળ જ ચાલતા હતા. એમણે છોકરીને સુચન કર્યું કે હનુમાનજીને તેલ ચઢાવી દે! છોકરીઓ રળિયા કાકાનો આદર કરતી હતી એટલે એમણે રળિયા કાકાની વાત માની. વળી એ દિવસે શનિવાર હતો એટલે હનુમાનજીનો વાર! છોકરીએ બધું તેલ હનુમાનજીને ચઢાવી દીધું!

છોકરી ઘરે ગઈ ત્યારે એની માએ એને તેલ માટે પૂછ્યું. જયારે માએ શું બન્યું તે જાણ્યું ત્યારે એ ખુબ જ ગુસ્સે થઇ ગઈ. તે રાજા પાસે રળિયા કાકા સામે ફરિયાદ કરવા ગઈ.

આ બાજુ રળિયા કાકા બુટ ચંપલની દુકાનમાં બુટ ખરીદવા ગયા. એમણે જુદી જુદી જાતના બુટના નામ પૂછ્યાં. બુટની એક જોડીનું નામ હતું "પેર જા".

દુકાનદારે નામ કહ્યું, "પેર જા".

હિન્દી ભાષામાં "પેર જા" એટલે "પહેરી લે". એટલે રળિયા કાકા તો એ બુટ પહેરીને ઘરે જવા લાગ્યા. દુકાનદારે પૈસા આપવા કહ્યું તો રળિયા કાકા કહે,

"કેમ ભાઈ? હમણા જ તો તમે મને કહ્યું કે પેર જા..." (એટલે કે પહેરી લે).

દુકાનદાર ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયો અને રાજાને ફરિયાદ કરવા ગયો.

પછી રળિયા કાકા મીઠાઈની દુકાને ગયા. એમણે જુદી જુદી મીઠાઈના નામ પૂછ્યાં. દુકાનદારે મીઠાઈઓના નામ કહ્યાં. એમાં ખાજા પણ હતા. ખાજા નામની મીઠાઈ આપણે નાગપંચમીના તહેવારમાં ખાતા હોઈએ છીએ.

દુકાનદારે મીઠાઈનું નામ કહ્યું, "ખાજા".

હિન્દી ભાષામાં "ખાજા" એટલે "ખાઈ લે". રળિયા કાકા તો ખાજાનો મોટો ટુકડો ખાઈને ઘરે જવા લાગ્યા.

મીઠાઈનો દુકાનદાર પણ રાજાને ફરિયાદ કરવા ગયો. રાજાએ રળિયા કાકાને બોલાવવા એક સિપાહીને મોકલ્યો. રળિયા કાકા સરળ અને સારા માણસ તરીકે જાણીતા હોવાથી સિપાહીને થયું કે રાજાએ એમને કોઈ ઇનામ આપવા બોલાવ્યા હશે. સિપાહીએ રળિયા કાકાને કહ્યું કે તમને જે ઇનામ મળે એમાંથી મને પણ કાંઇક આપજો. રળિયા કાકાએ સિપાહીને ઈનામનો ભાગ આપવાનું વચન આપ્યું.

રાજાએ રળિયા કાકાને એમની સામેની ફરિયાદો વિષે પૂછ્યું. રળિયા કાકાએ રાજાને આ બધી રમુજી વાતો કહી. હનુમાનજીને તેલ ચઢાવવાની, બુટ પહેરી લેવાની અને ખાજા ખાઈ જવાની વાતો માણીને રાજા ખુબ હસ્યા. રાજાએ ખુશ થઈને રળિયા કાકાને કોઈ ઇનામ માંગવા કહ્યું. રળિયા કાકાએ ઇનામમાં ચાબુકના ૧૦૦ ફટકા માંગ્યા!!

રાજા તો આ સાંભળીને સ્તબ્ધ થઇ ગયા. રળિયા કાકાએ રાજાને કહ્યું કે એમના સિપાહીએ ઈનામનો ભાગ માંગ્યો છે. માટે આવા લોભી સિપાહીને ચાબુકના ફટકાના "ઇનામ"નો ભાગ મળવો જ જોઈએ. પોતાના કર્મચારીઓ આવી રીતે લાંચ માંગે છે એ જાણીને રાજા ખુબ જ ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયા. એમણે સિપાહીને કડક સજા કરી અને રળિયા કાકાને ૧૦૦ સોનામહોરનું ઇનામ આપ્યું. રંગીલા રળિયા કાકા સુખેથી રહેવા લાગ્યા...

ખડબડ ખાં

એક રાજા હતો. એ ઘણો જ સારો રાજા હતો. એના રાજયમાં બધા બહુ જ સુખી હતા. એ રોજ રાતે નગરચર્યા કરવા નીકળતો. એક રાતે એ રસ્તો ભૂલી ગયો. એ એક ઘરડા માજીના ઘરે ગયો. રાજાએ વેશપલટો કર્યો હોવાથી માજી રાજાને ઓળખી ન શક્યાં. રાજાએ પાણી માગ્યું એટલે માજીએ એને પાણી આપ્યું. એ વખતે માજીની નજર રાજાના હાથ પર પડી. એમણે વીંટી જોઈ એટલે તરત રાજાને ઓળખી ગયાં.

માજીએ રાજાને કટાઈ ગએલી, તૂટેલી બાલદી આપી. રાજાને થયું કે માજી મને ઓળખતાં નથી એટલે આવી તૂટેલી ચીજ આપે છે. રાજાએ બાલદીને એક કપડામાં વીંટાળી. બાલદીનો એક ટુકડો તૂટી ગયો. રાજાએ એને ઘસ્યો તો એમાંથી ધુમાડો નીકળ્યો અને એક વિચિત્ર જેવો માણસ પ્રગટ થયો. આ માણસ ઘડીકમાં ખુબ જ ઉંચો થઇ જાય તો ઘડીકમાં એકદમ નીચો થઇ જાય. ઘડીકમાં ખુબ જ જાડો થઇ જાય તો ઘડીકમાં એકદમ પાતળો થઇ જાય.

રાજાએ આવા અજાયબ માણસને પૂછ્યું, "તું કોણ છે?"

વિચિત્ર માણસે કહ્યું, "મારું નામ ખડબડ ખાં છે. હું ઉંચો, નીચો, જાડો, પાતળો થઇ શકું છું. હું તારું કોઈ પણ કામ કરી શકું".

રાજા ખડબડ ખાંને પોતાની સાથે લઇ ગયા. રાજાએ એમને કહ્યું કે મારો બગીચો સાફ કરી આપો. ખડબડ ખાંએ તરત જ બગીચો એકદમ સુંદર કરી આપ્યો. રાજાએ ક્યારેય આવો સુંદર બગીચો નહોતો જોયો. રાજા એમને ખુબ જ માનપાન આપવા લાગ્યા.

રાજાની હજામત કરવા આવતા હજામને આ ન ગમ્યું. એણે રાજાને કહ્યું કે તમે ખડબડ ખાંને કહો કે હિમાલયમાં થતું જીવતું ઝાડ, ગાતું પક્ષી લઇ આવે. રાજાએ ખડબડ ખાંને કહ્યું તો એ કહે કે આ તો બહુ જ મુશ્કેલ છે. રાજા કહે કે તમે નહીં લાવો તો હું ખાવા-પીવાનું છોડી દઈશ. ખડબડ ખાં હિમાલય જવા ઉપડયા.

ખડબડ ખાં ખુબ જ ઊંચા થઇ ગયા અને લાંબા પગલાં ભરતા હિમાલય પહોંચી ગયા. ત્યાં ગામ લોકોને જીવતા ઝાડ, ગાતા પક્ષી વિષે પૂછ્યું તો ગામ લોકો કહે કે એની આસપાસ ભયંકર રાક્ષસો રહે છે. તમે બેહોશીનું અત્તર લઇ જાવ અને રાક્ષસોને બેભાન કરી દેજો. ખડબડ ખાં એકદમ નીચા થઇ ગયા અને જીવતા ઝાડ પાસે ગયા. એમણે રાક્ષસો પર બેહોશીનું અત્તર નાખ્યું અને એમને બેભાન કરી દીધા. પણ એક કાણો રાક્ષસ જલ્દી બેભાન ન થયો એ બધું જોઈ ગયો. ખડબડ ખાં જીવતું ઝાડ અને ગાતું પક્ષી લઈને ભાગ્યા એ કાણો રાક્ષસ જોઈ ગયો. ખડબડ ખાંએ રાજાને જીવતું ઝાડ અને ગાતું પક્ષી આપ્યાં એટલે રાજા તો ઘણો ખુશ થઇ ગયો. ખડબડ ખાંના માનપાન ઘણા વધી ગયા.

આથી હજામ વધારે ખિજાયો. એણે રાજાને ચઢાવ્યો કે તમે હજી કુંવારા છો તો ખડબડ ખાંને કહો કે તમારા માટે હિમાલયથી પદમણી લઇ આવે. રાજાએ ખડબડ ખાંને કહ્યું તો એ કહે કે આ તો બહુ જ મુશ્કેલ છે. રાજા રિસાઈ ગયો એટલે ખડબડ ખાં રાજા માટે પદમણી લેવા હિમાલય ગયા. ત્યાં ગામ લોકો એમને જોઇને રાજી રાજી થઇ ગયા. એમણે કહ્યું કે પદમણી તો અમારા રાજાની કુંવરી છે. એને હાથીઓ ઉપાડી ગયા છે. ખડબડ ખાં એકદમ નીચા થઇ ગયા અને હાથીઓ પાસે ગયા. એક મોટા હાથીએ પદમણીને એના કાનમાં રાખી હતી. ખડબડ ખાંએ હાથીઓ પર બેહોશીનું અત્તર નાખ્યું અને એમને બેભાન કરી દીધા. હાથીને ખબર ન પડે એ માટે ખડબડ ખાંએ પદમણીના વજન જેટલા વજનની લોટની ગુણી એના કાનમાં મૂકી દીધી. પછી પદમણીને પોતાની સાથે લઇ ગયા. રાજા સાથે પદમણીના લગ્ન કરાવ્યા.

રાજા રાણી સુખેથી રહેવા લાગ્યા. એવામાં એક નવી મુસીબત આવી પડી. પેલો કાણો રાક્ષસ જે ખડબડ ખાંને જોઈ ગયો હતો તે એમને શોધતો શોધતો આવી પહોંચ્યો. તે સાધુનો વેશ લઈને ગામ બહાર રહેવા લાગ્યો. ત્યાં આવતા લોકોને અને પશુઓને મારતો હતો. આ તકનો લાભ લઈને હજામે ખડબડ ખાંને મારી નાખવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. રાક્ષસને મળીને એણે એક યોજના કરી.

હજામે રાજાને કહ્યું કે ગામ બહાર એક સાધુ આવ્યા છે એના આશીર્વાદ લેવા જાવ. ખડબડ ખાંને પણ લઇ જાવ. રાજા ખડબડ ખાંને લઈ ગયા. રાક્ષસ તો આ તકની જ રાહ જોતો હતો. એણે રાજાને કહ્યું કે હું તમારા રાજયની શાંતી માટે એક હવન કરીશ. રાક્ષસે હવન કર્યો અને રાજાને તથા ખડબડ ખાંને અગ્નિકુંડના ફેરા ફરવા કહ્યું. એનો ઈરાદો ખડબડ ખાંને અગ્નિમાં નાંખી દેવાનો હતો. પણ ખડબડ ખાં ચેતી ગયા. તેઓ એકદમ ઊંચા અને જાડા બની ગયા. એમણે રાક્ષસને ઉપાડીને આગમાં નાંખી દીધો.

હવે ખડબડ ખાં સમજી ગયા હતા કે હજામ જ આવા કાવતરાં કરે છે. એમણે તક મળતાં જ હજામને ભગાડી મુક્યો. પછી એમણે પાછા જવા માટે રાજાની અનુમતિ માંગી. રાજા તો એમને હંમેશા પોતાની સાથે જ રાખવા માંગતા હતા. પરંતુ ખડબડ ખાંએ કહ્યું કે તેઓ કાયમ ત્યાં ન રહી શકે. ભવિષ્યમાં કોઈ મુસીબત આવે ત્યારે બોલાવજો. ખડબડ ખાંએ વિદાય લીધી. રાજા રાણી આનંદથી રહેવા લાગ્યા.

A mouse was walking on a road. He found a piece of nice cloth. He thought, “Let me have a nice cap of this cloth”.

He went to a tailor. He asked the tailor, “Dear Tailor, Will you please sew a nice cap for me?”

The tailor told the mouse, “Get out! I don’t have any time to sew a cap for a mouse”.

The mouse started singing, “I will call the police. He will beat you. I will enjoy the drama…”

The tailor got afraid and told the mouse, “No. No. Please don’t call the police. I will sew a cap for you”.

The tailor sewed a nice cap for the mouse. Then the mouse thought, “Let me have some nice embroidery work on my cap”.

He went to an embroidery worker. He asked him, “Dear Friend, Will you please do a good embroidery work on my cap?”

The embroidery worker told the mouse, “Get out! Why I should do embroidery for a mouse’s cap?”

The mouse started singing, “I will call the police. He will beat you. I will enjoy the drama…”

The embroidery worker got afraid and told the mouse, “No. No. Please don’t call the police. I will do embroidery for your cap”.

Then the mouse thought, “Let me put some pearls on my cap”.

He went to an artisan. He asked him, “Dear Friend, Will you please put pearls on my cap?”

The artisan told the mouse, “Are you crazy? I don’t have time to put pearls on a mouse’s cap”.

The mouse started singing, “I will call the police. He will beat you. I will enjoy the drama…”

The artisan got afraid and told the mouse, “No. No. Please don’t call the police. I will put pearls on your cap”.

The mouse was dancing and singing with joy.

The king’s convoy was passing from that road. The soldiers asked the mouse to move away from the road.

The mouse refused and said, “Why I should move? My cap is better than king’s cap”.

The king became angry and asked soldiers to take mouse’s cap.

The mouse started singing, “The king is a beggar. The king is a beggar…he took my cap…he took my cap…”

The king said, “Oh! This Mouse! He is telling me a begger. Just give back his cap”.

The mouse started singing, “The king is afraid of me. He gave back my cap…”

A Village Boy’s Gram

A village boy was eating grams in his compound. He was throwing gram in the air and then catching it in his mouth. One piece of gram fell on the wooden roof of his house.

The boy asked the wood, “Give back my gram”.

The wood told him, “No. I will not give you your gram”.

The boy went to the carpenter and asked him to cut the wood.

The carpenter said, “No. I will not cut the wood”.

Then the boy went to the king and asked him to punish the carpenter.

The king said, “No. I will not punish the carpenter”.

The boy went to the queen and asked her to stop talking to the king.

The queen said, “No. I will not stop talking to the king”.

The boy went to the mouse and asked him to cut queen’s clothes.

The mouse said, “No. I will not cut the queen’s clothes”.

Then the boy went to the cat and asked her to kill the mouse.

The cat said, “No. I will not kill the mouse”.

The boy went to the dog and asked him to bite the cat.

The dog said, “No. I will not bite the cat”.

Then the boy went to the stick and asked to beat the dog.

The stick said, “No. I will not beat the dog”.

The boy went to the fire and asked to burn the stick.

The fire said, “No. I will not burn the stick”.

The boy went to the water and asked to extinguish the fire.

The water said, “No. I will not extinguish the fire”.

Now the boy went to the elephant and asked him to dry the water.

The elephant said, “No. I will not dry the water”.

The boy went to the mosquito and asked him to sit in the elephant’s ear.

The mosquito said, “Oh Yes! I will sit in the elephant’s big ear”.

Now the elephant got afraid and told the boy, “No. No. Please stop the mosquito to sit in my ear. I will dry the water”.

Hearing this, water said, “No. No. Please don’t dry me. I will extinguish the fire”.

The fire got afraid and said, “No. No. Please don’t extinguish me. I will burn the stick”.

The stick said, “No. No. Please don’t burn me. I will beat the dog”.

The dog said, “No. No. Please don’t beat me. I will bite the cat”.

The cat said, “No. No. Please don’t bite me. I will kill the mouse”.

The mouse got afraid and said, “No. No. Please don’t kill me. I will cut the queen’s clothes”.

The queen said, “No. No. Please don’t cut my clothes. I will stop talking to the king”.

The king said, “Please don’t stop talking to me. I will punish the carpenter”.

The carpenter said, “No. No. Please don’t punish me. I will cut the wood”.

Now the wood of the boy’s house roof was afraid. The wood told the boy, “No. No. Please don’t cut me. I am giving back your gram”.

The boy got back his gram and started throwing in the air, catching in the mouth and eating with fun!

Sassa Rana Sankalia – Rabbit The Chain Master

There was a forest near a village. One priest was living in the forest in his hut. There was a small temple near his hut. He used to worship in the temple.

Every day the priest was bringing fresh fruits and vegetables from the forest.

One day the priest had gone to the forest. A rabbit entered his hut. The rabbit was delighted to see lots of fruits and vegetables. He locked the door of the hut from inside.

The priest came back and saw that door of his hut is locked. The priest knocked the door and asked, “Who is inside the hut?”

The rabbit changed his voice and answered with a loud voice from the hut,

“I am Rabbit Sankaliya – The Chain Master,

Have a Black Spot on the Leg.

Go Away O Priest, I will Break your Head…”

The priest got afraid and ran towards the village. One farmer saw him running. The farmer asked the priest, “Why you are afraid? Why you are running towards the village?’

The priest told the farmer that someone has entered his hut and locked the door. The farmer went to the priest’s hut.

The farmer knocked the door and asked, “Who is inside the hut?”

The rabbit changed his voice and answered with a loud voice from the hut,

“I am Rabbit Sankaliya – The Chain Master,

Have a Black Spot on the Leg.

Go Away O Farmer, I will Break your Head…”

The farmer also got afraid. He called the village leader.

The Village leader knocked the door and asked, “Who is inside the hut?”

The rabbit changed his voice and answered with a loud voice from the hut,

“I am Rabbit Sankaliya – The Chain Master,

Have a Black Spot on the Leg.

Go Away O Leader, I will Break your Head…”

The village leader had never heard anything like this. He asked the priest to stay in the village for that night. They all went to the village. The rabbit ate all fruits and vegetables. He took a good night sleep. Then he left the hut in the morning.

One fox came to know about this. The fox also went to the priest’s hut when he was away. The fox locked the door from inside.

When the priest came back, he saw that someone has entered his hut again. He called the farmer and the village leader. They knocked the door and asked, “Who is inside?”

The fox answered from the hut,

“I am Fox Sankaliya – The Chain Master,

Have a Black Spot on the Leg.

Go Away O Priest, I will Break your Head…”

But this time they all recognized that this is the fox! They broke the door and entered the hut. They beat up the fox. The fox started crying and ran into the forest.

The fox still wonders why the rabbit was not caught and why he was caught?

Chhamm Vadu (Sizzz Fried Vada…)

A poor man was living in a village. He had seven daughters. He did not have any work. He was begging alms and feeding his family.

One day he got some flour. He thought, “I have not eaten Vada since a long time. So I will eat vada from this flour”. (vada like Daalvada, Menduvada, Batakavada).

He went home and asked his wife to make vada. The flour was not enough to make vada for all so he asked his wife to make vada at night after all the daughters go to sleep.

At night, when all the daughters went to sleep, their mother started making vada. While making vada, when flour is thrown in the hot oil, it creates a Sizzling sound like “Chhamm”. So when the first vada was made, the eldest daughter woke up hearing the sound “Chhamm”.

She rushed into the kitchen and asked her mother,

“Mummy, give me Sizzz Fried…”.

Her mother had to give her a vadu.

When the mother made another vadu, the second daughter woke up hearing the sound “Chhamm”.

She rushed into the kitchen and asked her mother, “Mummy, give me Sizzz Fried…”. Her mother had to give her a vadu.

This way, all the seven daughters ate one vada each. Nothing left behind for their father. The father became very angry as he got a chance to eat vada after a long time but all the seven daughters ate them.

He took the daughters to the jungle and left them there. Six sisters climbed on a tree. The youngest sister could not climb so kept running. She found a beautiful house. She went inside the house. She saw many sweets and food. She started dancing and jumping with joy. Then she called her six sisters. They all stayed in the house and ate sweets, food. They became very beautiful and healthy.

At their home in the village, their father repented, “Oh! What a cruel father I am! My own daughters ate vada and I left them in the jungle”. He ran to the jungle. He saw his daughters staying in a house and enjoying sweet food. They had become very beautiful and healthy. The father said sorry to the daughters. He took lots of food and took the daughters back to home.

Tachukiya Bhai – A Tiny Boy

An old woman was living in a village. She did not have any child. She was living alone.

One day she went to the forest to bring some vegetables. She got one Jackfruit. When she cut it, she found one little boy inside! She named him Sango. One day she brought Jackfruit. Once again she found a boy inside. She named him Sarvan.

One more time the old woman got a child inside the Jackfruit. She named him Lakho. After few days she found one more boy. She named him Lakhman. The old woman and her four sons were very happy.

Later some time, the old woman brought the Jackfruit. This time she found a very tiny boy inside. She named him Tachukiya – means Tiny.

One day the old woman was going in the forest. One Lion met her. The lion said, “Hey Old woman! I want to eat you”.

The old woman said, “I am very old. What you will get by eating me? I will send my healthy son Tachukiya”.

The lion thought, “This is fine. I will eat the healthy Tachukiya”. He asked the old woman to send Tachukiya.

The old woman thought that Tachukiya is very smart so he will definitely find out some way to save from the lion.

She went home and told Tachukiya that his maternal uncle -Lion Mama wants to meet him.

She said, “Tachukiya bhai, Go to Mama house…”

Tachukiya was very smart so he understood that the lion will not call him just to meet.

So he told, “No No Ma, Mama will Eat me…”

The old woman told him everything and asked to find out some way to save from the lion.

Tachukiya asked her to call the lion for lunch.

The old woman went to the forest. The lion said, “Hey! Why Tachukiya did not come? Now I will eat you”.

The old woman said, “No. Please come to my home for lunch. I have five sons. We will have fun”.

The lion thought, “Oh Great! I will get this woman and her five sons – six persons to eat”!

The lion went to her house for the lunch. He talked to her sons, laughed and enjoyed a lot.

Then the old woman asked the lion, “What you will eat for your lunch”?

The lion said,

“First I will eat Sango and Sarvan.

Then I will eat Lakho and Lakhman.

Then I will eat Tachukiya bhai.

Last I will eat the old woman…”

Tachukiya said, “Oh come on Mama! Why do you want to eat us so fast? First hear a story from me”.

He told a story how he and his brothers together can kill anyone.

Tachukiya said,

“Hands will be held by Sango and Sarvan.

Legs will be held by Lakho and Lakhman.

Throat will be cut by Tachukiya bhai.

Last Rites will be done by the old woman…”

The lion thought, “These all together can definitely kill me. So let me run away from here…”.

The lion ran away from their home.

Tachukiya bhai shouted at him, “O Lion mama, why you are running away without lunch?”

The old woman and her five sons lived happily.

Sparrow Alone Shaved, The King’s Family Shaved

A sparrow was living in a king’s palace. One day the king was sitting in his assembly. The sparrow flew over his head and by mistake her droppings fell on the king’s head.

The king became very angry. He ordered his soldiers to catch the sparrow and shave her head. The soldiers shaved the sparrow’s head. The sparrow felt very insulted. She decided to teach a lesson to the king. She just waited for the right opportunity.

One day the king went to the temple. He bowed down and prayed, “O God! Please have mercy on me”.

The sparrow went behind the God’s idol and made a voice, “Go Away O King! I will not have mercy on you”.

The king asked, “Why my Lord?”

The sparrow said, “First go and shave your head”.

The king went home and shaved his head. Then he came to the temple and prayed, “O God! Please have mercy on me”.

The sparrow went behind the God’s idol and made a voice, “Go Away O King! I will not have mercy on you”.

The king asked, “Why my Lord?”

The sparrow said, “Go and shave your queen’s head”.

The king went home and shaved his queen’s head. Then he came to the temple and prayed, “O God! Please have mercy on me”.

The sparrow went behind the God’s idol and made a voice, “Go Away O King! I will not have mercy on you”.

The king asked, “Why my Lord?”

The sparrow said, “Go and shave your prince’s head”.

The king went home and shaved his prince’s head. Then he came to the temple and prayed, “O God! Please have mercy on me”.

The sparrow went behind the God’s idol and made a voice, “Go Away O King! I will not have mercy on you”.

The king asked, “Why my Lord?”

The sparrow said, “Go and shave your princess’ head”.

The king went home and shaved his princess’ head. Then he came to the temple and prayed, “O God! Please have mercy on me”.

This time the sparrow came behind the idol and started singing,

“Sparrow Alone Shaved, the King’s Family Shaved…”

She had fun and took a sweet revenge by teaching the king a lesson not to insult anyone.

Idiot Conch

Two friends were living in a village. One was very poor and simple. He prayed to Lord Shiva and asked for some wealth. Shivji gave him a conch and asked him to worship the conch daily.

The poor fellow was daily worshiping the conch. The conch was giving him one gold coin! This way he became very rich by daily getting the gold coins.

His friend asked him the secret of his becoming rich so suddenly. The simple man told everything to his friend. His friend was greedy. He decided to fetch his conch. He got a conch looking similar to the God’s conch. He stayed overnight at his friend’s house. He exchanged his conch with the God’s conch.

Next day when the simple man worshiped the conch, he got nothing! He prayed Shivji and asked him why this happened with him. Shivji gave him a new conch and told that it will give the double of whatever he will ask. The simple man told this to his friend. The greedy friend brought back the original conch and put in place of the new one. He took away the new conch.

When the greedy friend worshiped the conch and asked to double his wealth, he got nothing! Our simple man had already got his original conch given earlier by Lord Shiva. So when he worshiped the conch, he once again got the gold coin!

The greedy friend cried at himself and threw away the conch telling it an Idiot Conch!

Rangila Ralia Kaka - Jolly Ralia Uncle

There was a man named Ralia in a village. He was a gentle person. He was always in a good humorous mood so people called him Rangila Ralia kaka (means Jolly Ralia Uncle).

One day two girls were walking in a street with a bucket full of oil. One girl was telling the other about problems in her family - papa not in good health, mummy always worried, brother is failing his exams etc. She was ready to do anything to bring peace to her family.

Ralia kaka was walking behind them and suggested to pour the oil on Hanumanji. The girls respected him and so they believed him. She emptied the oil on Hanumanji as that was a Saturday – a day considered as a special day for Lord Hanuman.

When she reached home, her mother asked about the oil. She was very angry when she came to know what had happened. She went to the king with a complaint against Ralia kaka.

After meeting these two girls, Ralia kaka went to a shoe shop. He wanted to buy a pair of shoes. He asked the names of different styles of footwear.

There was one called"Perja" so the shopkeeper told its name “Perja”. Perja means “Wear it” in Hindi language so Ralia kaka wore them and started to go home. The shop keeper asked for payment but Ralia kaka said,

“Hey! Just now you told me Perja” - You only told me to wear them and go!! The shop keeper was angry and went to complain to the king.

Then Ralia kaka went to a sweet shop where he asked about different sweets. The shopkeeper told him names of different sweets. There was one called “Khaja” so the shopkeeper told its name “Khaja”. Khaja means “Eat it” in Hindi language so Ralia kaka ate a big piece of Khaja and started to go home.

The sweet shop keeper also went to the king. Then the king summoned Ralia kaka. Ralia kaka was known to be a simple and a good man so the soldier who went to call him thought that the king is calling him to give some prize. The soldier asked him to share his prize with him.Ralia kaka promised him to share his prize with him.

When the king asked Ralia kaka about the complaints against him, he explained all these funny stories. The king enjoyed these funny stories and laughed a lot. He was very happy and offered Ralia kaka some prize. Ralia kaka asked for 100 whips as his prize!

The king was shocked to hear this. Then Ralia kaka told the king that his soldier has asked him to share his prize. So the greedy soldier should get a “prize” of whips! The king became very angry to know that his employee is asking for a bribe! He punished the soldier and rewarded Ralia kaka with 100 Gold coins. Rangila Ralia kaka lived happily ever after!

Khadbad Khan

There was one king. He was a very noble king. People were very happy in his kingdom. At night he was going to know the where about of his people. One night he forgot his way. He went to one old woman’s house. The king had changed his appearance so the old woman could not recognize him. The king asked for water. When the old woman gave him water, she saw the ring on his finger. The old woman immediately recognized the king from his ring.

The old woman gave one broken, rusted bucket to the king. The king thought that the old woman does not recognize him so she is giving him such a broken bucket. The king wrapped the bucket in a cloth. One piece of the bucket fell down. When the king rubbed the piece, smoke came out and one strange person appeared from the smoke. This person was changing his form as Tall, Short, Thin, Fat.

The king asked this wonder person, “Who are you?”

The wonder person told the king, “My name is Khadbad khan. I am capable to become Tall, Short, Thin, Fat. I can do any work for you”.

The king took Khadbad khan with him. The king asked Khadbad khan to clean his garden. Khadbad khan prepared a very beautiful garden. The king had never seen such a beautiful garden. The king was now keeping Khadbad khan with full respect.

The king’s barber did not like this. He asked the king to order Khadbad khan to bring the Living Tree and Singing Bird from the Himalaya. Khabdad khan told the king that it is very difficult. The king told him that he will not eat anything if he does not bring these things for him. Khadbad khan went to the Himalaya.

Khadbad khan became very tall and reached Himalaya by taking long steps. He asked the villagers about Living Tree and Singing Bird. The villagers told him that there are many demons near the Living Tree and Singing Bird. They gave him perfume to make them unconscious. Khadbad khan became very short and went to the Living Tree. He threw perfume on the demons to make them unconscious. One one-eyed demon did not become unconscious soon so he saw what Khadbad khan was doing. Khadbad khan took away the Living Tree and Singing Bird. The one-eyed demon saw this. The king became very happy to get the Living Tree and Singing Bird. He gave more respect to Khadbad khan.

The barber became very upset. He asked the king to order Khadbad khan to bring a beautiful Himalayan princess for him. Khadbad khan told the king that it is very difficult. The king stopped talking to him so he went to the Himalaya. The villagers became very happy to see Khadbad khan. They told him that big elephants have captured their king’s beautiful princess. They gave him perfume to make the elephants unconscious. Khadbad khan became very short and went to the elephants. One big elephant had kept the princess in his long ear. Khadbad khan threw perfume on the elephants to make them unconscious. He brought out the princess from the elephant’s ear. He put a bag of the weight of the princess in the elephant’s ear so he does not feel that the princess is not in his ear. Khadbad khan took the princess with him. The king married the princess.

The king and his queen were very happy. But then a new problem came up! That one-eyed demon who had seen Khadbad khan, started searching him and came to the village. He put up a priest’s dress and stayed outside the village. He was killing the people and cattles coming there. The barber took this opportunity and decided to kill Khadbad khan. He met the demon and prepared a plan.

The barber asked the king to take blessing from the priest. The king went to meet the priest and also took Khadbad khan with him. The demon was just waiting for this opportunity. He told the king that he will perform a Yagna – a holy ritual for his kingdom’s peace. The demon performed the holy ritual – a Yagna by making fire. He asked the king and Khadbad khan to move around the fire. He wanted to throw Khadbad khan in the fire. But Khadbad khan became alert. He became very tall and fat. He picked up the demon and threw him in the fire.

Now Khadbad khan knew that the cunning barber is making such cruel plans. He found an opportunity and got rid of the barber. Now Khadbad khan had to go. He asked the king to let him go. The king wanted to keep him forever. Khadbad khan told him that he cannot stay there forever. He promised the king that he will be with him any time in future if he has any problem. Khadbad khan took leave. The king and the queen were living happily.
