બાપા  કાગડો... હા  બેટા  કાગડો  

  

એક ગામમાં એક વેપારીની કરિયાણાની નાની દુકાન હતી. આ વેપારી આખો દિવસ દુકાનમાં બેસી ચીજ વસ્તુ વેંચે. વેપારનો હિસાબ એક ચોપડામાં લખે.

આ વેપારીનો દીકરો નાનો હતો ત્યારે દુકાને આવીને રમે. દુકાનની સામે ઝાડ પર કાગડો બેસીને કા..કા કર્યા કરતો. નાનો બાળક એના બાપને કહ્યા કરે:

"બાપા જુઓ આ કાગડો.."

વેપારી ચોપડામાં માથું નાખી કામ કરતા જાય અને દીકરાને જવાબ આપતા જાય:

"હા બેટા કાગડો..".

આવું વારંવાર થાય એમાં વેપારી ભૂલથી ચોપડામાં લખી નાખે:

"બાપા જુઓ આ કાગડો..હા બેટા કાગડો"

વર્ષો પછી વેપારી ઘરડો થઇ ગયો અને એનો દીકરો યુવાન થઇ ગયો એટલે દીકરાએ દુકાન સંભાળી લીધી. ઘરડો બાપ કોઈ કોઈ વાર દુકાને આવીને બેસે અને દીકરા સાથે વાત કરવા લાગે. દીકરાને કામમાં ખલેલ પડે એટલે એ બાપને ધમકાવે અને મુંગા બેસી રહેવા કહે. ઘણી વાર તો બાપનું અપમાન પણ કરી લે. એક વાર ઘરડા વેપારીએ દુઃખી થઈને દીકરાને કાંઇક સમજાવવા વિચાર્યું. એણે વર્ષો જુના હિસાબના ચોપડાઓ દીકરા પાસે મૂકી દીધા.

દીકરાએ આ ચોપડાઓ જોયા તો એમાં વાંચ્યું:

"બાપા જુઓ આ કાગડો..હા બેટા કાગડો".

દીકરાને એના બાળપણની વાત યાદ આવી ગઈ કે પોતે સતત રમત કર્યા કરતો અને આવું બોલ્યા કરતો ત્યારે એના બાપ જરાયે અકળાયા વગર એને જવાબ આપ્યા કરતા એમાં જ એમનાથી ભૂલમાં આવું લખાઈ ગયું હતું. દીકરાને ખુબ જ પસ્તાવો થયો કે એના બાપે જરાયે અકળાયા વગર એને આવા લાડ લડાવ્યા હતા જયારે પોતે તો ઘરડા થઇ ગયેલા બાપનું અપમાન કરે છે અને એમને વાત જ નથી કરવા દેતો. ત્યાર પછી દીકરો બાપનું ક્યારેય અપમાન ન કરતો અને એમની સાથે વાતો કરીને એમને આનંદમાં રાખતો.

=> ઘરડા મા-બાપનું ક્યારેય અપમાન ન કરવું. એમણે આપણે નાના હતા ત્યારે આપણી બધી જ ધમાલ-મસ્તી સહન કરીને આપણને ખુશ રાખ્યા હતા તો જયારે આપણે મોટા થઇ જઈએ અને મા-બાપ ઘરડા થઇ જાય ત્યારે એમની સાથે પ્રેમથી વાતો કરીને એમને આનંદમાં રાખવા જોઈએ.

ચતુર માજી 

એક ગામમાં એક ઘરડા માજી એકલાં રહેતાં હતાં. એમને સંતાનમાં એક માત્ર દીકરી હતી જે પરણેલી હતી અને પાસેના ગામમાં રહેતી હતી. એક દિવસ માજીએ એની દીકરીને મળવા જવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.

એ ગામમાં જવા માટે એક જંગલમાંથી પસાર થવું પડતું હતું. માજી જંગલમાંથી જઈ રહ્યાં હતાં ત્યારે એક સિંહ આવ્યો અને માજી ને કહેવા લાગ્યો કે એ ઘણો જ ભૂખ્યો છે એટલે તેને ખાઈ જશે. માજી ઘણા ચતુર હતા. તેમણે સિંહને મૂરખ બનાવવાનો રસ્તો વિચાર્યો. માજીએ સિંહને કહ્યું:

"હું તો ઘણી ઘરડી છું. ઘણી દૂબળી-પાતળી છું. તું મને ખાઇશ તો તને શું મળશે? પહેલાં મને મારી દીકરીને ઘરે જવાદે. સારું સારું ખાવા દે. તાજી - તંદુરસ્ત થવા દે. પછી મને ખાજે".

સિંહે વિચાર્યું કે માજીની વાત સાચી છે. આવા દૂબળા-પાતળા માજીને અત્યારે ખાશે તો એને કશું નહિ મળે. માત્ર હાડકાં જ ખાવા મળશે. એના બદલે માજી દીકરીને ઘરે જઈ આવે પછી ખાય તો એને થોડાં લોહી-માંસ પણ મળશે. આમ વિચારીને સિંહે માજીને જવા દીધા.

રસ્તામાં માજીને વાઘ અને રીંછ પણ મળ્યા. એમણે આ જ યુક્તિ વાપરીને બંનેને મૂરખ બનાવ્યા.

દીકરીને ઘરે થોડા દિવસ રહ્યા પછી માજીએ પોતાના ઘરે પાછા ફરવાનું વિચાર્યું. માજી જાણતાં હતાં કે એમને સિંહ, વાઘ અને રીંછ મળશે અને મારી નાખશે. એમણે એક યુક્તિ વાપરીને મોટી ગોળ કોઠી બનાવી. માજી કોઠીમાં બેસી ગયા અને કોઠીને અંદરથી ગબડાવતા ગબડાવતા જવા લાગ્યા.

જંગલમાં સિંહે આ ગબડતી કોઠી જોઈ. સિંહે કોઠીને પુછ્યું:

"તેં પેલા માજીને જોયા છે જે એની દીકરીને ગામ ગયા છે?".

ચતુર માજીએ  અવાજ બદલીને કોઠીની અંદરથી જવાબ આપ્યો:

"કઈ માજી? કયું ગામ? ચાલ કોઠી આપણે ગામ...".

આમ કહીને એમણે કોઠીને અંદરથી ધક્કો મારીને ગબડાવવા માંડી. સિંહ આવી પોતાની મેળે જ ગબડતી કોઠી જોઇને ગભરાઈ ગયો અને રસ્તામાંથી ખસી ગયો. આવી જ રીતે વાઘ અને રીંછ પણ ગભરાઈને ભાગી ગયા.

ચતુર માજી સહી-સલામત પોતાને ઘરે પહોંચી ગયા.

ચતુર વેપારીઓ   

એક ગામમાં કેટલાક વેપારીઓ રહેતા હતા. એમને માલ વેંચવા જુદા જુદા સ્થળે જવું પડતું. એક વખત તેઓ માલ વેંચવા જતા હતા ત્યારે ઘણું મોડું થઇ ગયું. એમને રાતના અંધારામાં જંગલમાંથી પસાર થવું પડ્યું. કેટલાક લૂંટારાઓએ એમનો માલ લૂંટી લીધો.

વેપારીઓ બહાદુર અને ચતુર હતા. એમણે એક યુક્તિ કરી. એમણે લૂંટારાઓને કહ્યુંકે તેઓ ઘણા સારા કલાકાર છે. તેઓ એક સરસ નાટક કરીને એમનું મનોરંજન કરશે. લૂંટારાઓ નાટક જોવા બેસી ગયા.

વેપારીઓએ નાટક શરુ કર્યું. સૌપ્રથમ એમણે ભરવાડનો વેશ લીધો અને ગાવા લાગ્યા:

"વેપારી કલાકાર આવે છે. ભરવાડનો વેશ લાવે છે".

એમણે ભરવાડનો અભિનય કરીને લૂંટારાઓનું મનોરંજન કર્યું. પછી એમણે સુથાર, મોચી, લુહાર વિ. ના અભિનય કરીને લૂંટારાઓનું મનોરંજન કર્યું.

લૂંટારાઓ મોજમાં આવી વેપારીઓ સાથે નાચવા-ગાવા લાગ્યા. પછી વેપારીઓએ ચોર-પોલીસનું નાટક શરુ કર્યું. કેટલાક વેપારીઓ ચોર-લુંટારા બન્યા અને કેટલાક પોલીસ બન્યા. આ નાટકમાં એમણે બતાવ્યું કે પોલીસ આવીને લૂંટારાઓને પકડી જાય છે. વેપારી કલાકારો ગાવા લાગ્યા:

"વેપારી કલાકાર આવે છે. ચોરનો વેશ લાવે છે. જલ્દી દોડો ભાઈ જલ્દી દોડો, જઈ પોલીસને જાણ કરો".

કેટલાક વેપારીઓ શહેરમાં ગયા અને અસલી પોલીસને લૂંટારાઓ વિષે જાણ કરી. અસલી પોલીસ વેપારીઓની સાથે જયાં નાટક થતું હતું એ જગ્યાએ આવ્યા .

હવે વેપારી કલાકારો ગાવા લાગ્યા:

"વેપારી કલાકાર આવે છે. પોલીસનો વેશ લાવે છે".

જે વેપારીઓએ પોલીસનો વેશ લીધો હતો તેઓ આવ્યા. લૂંટારાઓ સમજ્યા કે આ તો નાટકનો જ એક ભાગ છે એટલે તેઓ કલાકારો સાથે નાચવા લાગ્યા. ત્યારે જ અસલી પોલીસ આવ્યા અને લૂંટારાઓને પકડી લીધા. હજી પણ લૂંટારાઓ એમ જ માનતા હતા કે આ તો નાટકનો જ એક ભાગ છે! પોલીસ લૂંટારાઓને જેલમાં લઇ ગયા અને વેપારીઓને એમનો માલ પાછો મળી ગયો.

આમ બહાદુર અને ચતુર વેપારીઓએ એમનો માલ પાછો મેળવ્યો અને લૂંટારાઓને પણ પકડાવી દીધા. આપણે ગમે તેવી ખરાબ પરિસ્થિતિમાં (જેમ કે અહીં વેપારીઓ લૂંટાઈ ગયા) પણ ગભરાવું ન જોઈએ. આપણે બહાદુરીથી પરિસ્થિતિનો સામનો કરવો જોઈએ અને ચતુરાઈપૂર્વક સાચા નિર્ણય લેવા જોઈએ.

ટાઢું ટબુકડું 

એક ગામમાં એક માજી એકલાં રહેતાં હતાં. ગામ જંગલની નજીક હતું. જંગલમાં સિંહ, વાઘ જેવા જંગલી પ્રાણીઓ રહેતા હતા.

એક દિવસ ત્યાં ભારે વરસાદ પડ્યો. નદીમાં પૂર આવી ગયું. પૂરનું પાણી જંગલમાં આવી ગયું એટલે કેટલાક જંગલી પ્રાણીઓ ગામમાં દોડી આવ્યા. એક વાઘ માજીના ઘર પાસે આવી ગયો. વાઘ ભૂખ્યો હતો એટલે માજીને બીક લાગીકે તે એમને મારશે તો? માજી ગાવા લાગ્યાં:

"હું તો સિંહડાથી ન બીવું, વાઘડાથી ન બીવું, પણ ટાઢા ટબુકડાથી બીવું".

આ સાંભળીને વાઘ અચંબામાં પડી ગયો. આ કેવું કે માજીને કોઈ જંગલી પ્રાણીની બીક નથી લાગતી પણ એક ટાઢા ટબુકડાની બીક લાગે છે? એણે ટાઢા ટબુકડાને મળવાનું નક્કી કર્યું અને એ માજીના ઘરે ગયો. વાઘ માજીના ઘરની બહાર ઊભો રહ્યો.

માજીના ઘરનું છાપરું નળિયાનું બનેલું હતું. વરસાદનું પાણી નળિયા પરથી ટપકતું હતું. વરસાદ રહી ગયો હતો એટલે પાણી ટીપે ટીપે ટપકતું હતું. ઠંડીને લીધે ટીપું ખુબ જ ઠંડુ અને ધ્રુજાવી દે એવું હતું. માજી આ ઠંડા ટીપાંને ટાઢું ટબુકડું કહેતાં હતાં. વાઘ પર ટીપું પડ્યું ત્યારે એ ઠંડીથી ધ્રુજી ગયો. ઠંડુ પાણી ટીપે ટીપે પડતું હતું એટલે વાઘ એના ઠંડા, ધ્રુજાવી દે એવા મારથી ગભરાઈ ગયો. વાઘ માજીના ઘર પાસેથી ભાગી ગયો.

આમ ટાઢા ટબુકડાએ માજીને બચાવી લીધાં!

આળસુ કબૂતર  

એક ખેતર હતું. ખેતર પાસેના ઝાડ પર એક ચકલી અને એક કબૂતર રહેતાં હતાં. ચોમાસું સારું રહ્યું હોવાથી ખેતરમાં ખુબ જ સારો પાક થયો હતો. ખેતર દાણા વાળા ડૂંડાઓથી લચી રહ્યું હતું. ચકલી રોજ વહેલી સવારે ખેતરમાં દાણા ચણવા જતી હતી.

લણણી (પાકની કાપણી)નો સમય નજીક આવ્યો એટલે ચકલીએ શિયાળાની ઋતુ માટે દાણા ભેગા કરી સાચવી રાખવા વિચાર્યું. તેણે કબૂતરને પણ એમ કરવા કહ્યું. કબૂતર આળસુ હતું એટલે એણે ધ્યાન ન આપ્યું. રોજ સવારે ચકલી કબૂતરને એની સાથે આવવા કહેતી હતી. કબૂતર એને કહેતું:

"ઠાગા ઠૈયા કરું છું..ચાંચુડી ઘડાવું છું...જાવ રે ચકલીબેન આવું છું.."

ચકલી દાણા એકઠા કરતી હતી. તેણે કબૂતરને કહ્યું કે હવે ગમે ત્યારે ખેડૂત પાકની કાપણી કરી લેશે. પણ આળસુ કબૂતર મોડું કર્યે રાખતું અને કહ્યા કરતું:

"ઠાગા ઠૈયા કરું છું..ચાંચુડી ઘડાવું છું...જાવ રે ચકલીબેન આવું છું.."

એક દિવસ ખેડૂતે પાકની કાપણી કરી લીધી. ચકલીએ તો દાણા ભેગા કરી લીધા હતા પણ આળસુ કબૂતર શિયાળા માટે પૂરતા દાણા ભેગા ન કરી શક્યું. આળસુએ કિંમત ચુકવવી જ પડે! સારું જીવન જીવવા માટે આળસ ખુબ જ નુકસાનકર્તા છે.

રાજાને સપનાએ બચાવ્યો!!   

એક રાજ્યમાં એક રાજા રાજ કરતો હતો. કેટલાક દુશ્મનોએ રાજાને મારવાનું કાવતરું કર્યું. રાજા સુતા હતા ત્યાં છરો લઇ પહોંચી ગયા અને રાજાના કમરાની બહાર સંકોચાઈને-સંતાઈને બેસી ગયા.

બરાબર ત્યારે જ રાજાને સપનું આવ્યું. એણે સપનામાં એક બતક જોયું. બતક શરીર સંકોચીને પાણીમાં બેઠું હતું. રાજા ઊંઘમાં જ બોલ્યો:

"કુક્કડ મુક્કડ બેઠા છે".

ખૂનીઓ ચમકી ગયા કે રાજા જાણી ગયો છે કે તેઓ બહાર બેઠા છે?

ખૂનીઓ સાવચેતીથી કમરામાં જવા જમીન ખોદવા લાગ્યા. બરાબર ત્યારે જ રાજાએ સપનામાં કૂતરું જોયું જે જમીન ખોદતું હતું. રાજા ઊંઘમાં જ બોલ્યો:

"ખદબદ ખદબદ ખોદે છે".

ખૂનીઓ સમજ્યા કે રાજા તેમને જોઈ ગયો લાગે છે. ખૂનીઓ ગભરાઈ ગયા અને ભાગ્યા. બરાબર ત્યારે જ રાજાએ સપનામાં ઘોડો જોયો જે દોડતો હતો. રાજા ઊંઘમાં જ બોલ્યો:

"ધડબડ ધડબડ દોડે છે".

હવે તો ખૂનીઓને લાગ્યુંકે રાજા એમને જોઈ જ ગયો છે એટલે એમને પકડીને ફાંસી જ આપી દેશે. ખૂનીઓ રાજ્ય છોડીને જ ભાગી ગયા.

આમ રાજાને સપનાં આવ્યાં એમાં અનાયાસે જ રાજા બચી ગયો!

નસીબવંતા ટીડા જોશી  

એક રાજ્યમાં ટીડા જોશી નામના જ્યોતિષ રહેતા હતા. તે લોકોને કહેતા કે તે બધું જ જાણે છે. તે બધાનું ભવિષ્ય કહી શકે છે. તે ઘણા જ નસીબદાર હતા આથી જયારે પણ તે ભવિષ્ય કહેતા ત્યારે એ પ્રમાણે જ બનતું.

રાજ્યના રાજાએ એમના વિષે સાંભળ્યું. રાજાએ ટીડા જોશીને એમના વિશ્વાસુ સેવક તરીકે મહેલમાં રહેવા બોલાવ્યા. રાજાએ એમને સારો પગાર પણ આપ્યો.

એક દિવસ રાજા એમની સાથે ટીડા જોશીને રાજ્યના લોકોને મળવા લઇ ગયા. તેઓ એક ખેડૂતના ઘરે જમવા ગયા. ખેડૂતની પત્ની રોટલા બનાવતી હતી. ટીડા જોશીએ ગણ્યું કે કેટલી વખત રોટલા ટીપાય છે (કેટલી વખત ટપ ટપ થયું) એટલે તેઓ જાણી શક્યા કે કેટલા રોટલા બન્યા છે.

રાજાએ ટીડા જોશીની પરીક્ષા લેવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. રાજાએ ટીડા જોશીને પૂછ્યું કે કેટલા રોટલા બન્યા છે. ટીડા જોશીએ તરત જ જવાબ આપ્યો કે ૧૩ રોટલા બન્યા છે કારણકે એમણે ગણ્યું હતું કે કેટલી વખત ટપ ટપ થયું. રાજાએ ખાતરી કરી અને ઘણા ખુશ થયા કે ટીડા જોશી સાચા હતા. રાજાએ એમને સારું ઇનામ આપ્યું.

ટીડા જોશી રાજાના મહેલમાં રહીને મજા કરતા હતા. એક દિવસ રાજાનો હાર ચોરાઈ ગયો. મહેલના માણસોએ આખા મહેલમાં શોધખોળ કરી પણ હાર ન મળ્યો. રાજાએ ટીડા જોશીને હાર ક્યાં છે તે જણાવવા કહ્યું. ટીડા જોશીએ એક દિવસનો સમય માંગ્યો.

ટીડા જોશી ઘણા ગભરાઈ ગયા કારણકે એ જાણતા નહોતા કે હાર ક્યાં છે. જુઠ્ઠું બોલવા માટે રાજા સજા કરશે એવા ડરથી તેઓ રાતે ઊંઘી પણ ન શક્યા. તેઓ બબડવા માંડ્યા:

"નીન્દરડી નીન્દરડી આવ".

મહેલમાં "નીન્દરડી" નામની એક સ્ત્રી હતી અને એણે જ હારની ચોરી કરી હતી. ટીડા જોશી તો ઊંઘને નીંદર કહેતા હતા. પણ તે સ્ત્રી સમજી કે ટીડા જોશી જાણી ગયા છે કે એણે જ હાર ચોર્યો છે. તે ટીડા જોશી પાસે આવી અને એમને હાર આપી દીધો. તે માફી માંગવા લાગી. ટીડા જોશી તો માની જ ન શક્યાકે એમના આવા સારા નસીબ છે! એમણે રાજાને હાર આપ્યો. રાજા ઘણા ખુશ થઇ ગયા અને એમને સોનામહોરો આપી.

એક દિવસ રાજા અને ટીડા જોશી ફરવા નીકળ્યા હતા. રાજાએ એક તીડું ઝડપી લીધું અને એમની મુઠ્ઠીમાં મૂકી દીધું. એમણે ટીડા જોશીને પૂછ્યું કે એમની મુઠ્ઠીમાં શું છે. હવે ટીડા જોશી સમજી ગયા કે એમના જુઠ્ઠાણાંનો અંત આવી ગયો છે. રાજાની મુઠ્ઠીમાં શું છે તે કેવી રીતે ખબર પડે? એમણે રાજાને સાચી વાત કહી દેવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.

તેઓ ગાવા લાગ્યા:

"ટપ ટપ કરતાં તેર જ ગણ્યા (૧૩ રોટલા ટીપાયા હતા).

નીંદરડીએ આપ્યો હાર (નીંદરડી નામની નોકરાણી).

કાં રાજા તું ટીડાને માર?”

આમ કહી તેઓ એમ કહેવા માંગતા હતા કે નસીબના જોરે જ એમનું જુઠ્ઠાણું ચાલ્યું છે તો રાજાએ "ટીડા"ને એટલે કે એમને ન મારવા જોઈએ. રાજાએ મુઠ્ઠી ખોલી તો એમાંથી તીડું નીકળ્યું! રાજા સમજ્યા કે જોશીએ "તીડા" જ કહ્યું છે! રાજાને લાગ્યું કે ટીડા જોશી બધું જ જાણી શકવાની શક્તિ ધરાવે છે!

ટીડા જોશી આટલા બધા સારા નસીબવાળા હતા!

બંધ બેસતી પાઘડી પહેરી....  

એક ગામમાં ગોવિંદ નામના ખેડૂત રહેતા હતા. તે ગામના મુખી હતા.

એક વખત પવિત્ર શ્રાવણ મહીનામાં ગામવાસીઓએ એક કથાનું આયોજન કર્યું. લોકો દિવસ દરમ્યાન કામ કરતા અને સાંજે કથામાં જતા. એક મહાત્મા કથા કહેતા.

એક દિવસ મુખી ગોવિંદ એમના ખેતરે જતા હતા. એમણે જમીન પર એક બોર પડેલું જોયું. એમને બોર ખાવાની ઈચ્છા થઇ ગઈ. એમણે આસપાસ નજર કરી કે કોઈ જોતું તો નથી ને. ત્યાં નજીકમાં કોઈ નહોતું એટલે તેઓ જમીન પરથી બોર ઉપાડીને ખાઈ ગયા.

સાંજે તેઓ ગામના બીજા લોકો સાથે કથા સંભાળવા ગયા. કથા પૂરી થઇ ત્યારે કોઈએ મહારાજને પૂછ્યું કે કાલે શેની કથા કરવાના છો? મહારાજે કહ્યું કે "કાલે તો ગોવિંદના ગુણ ગવાશે". મહારાજનું  કહેવું હતું કે "ગોવિંદ" એટલે કે ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણની કથા કરશે. ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણનું એક નામ ગોવિંદ પણ છે.  મુખી ગોવિંદ સમજ્યા કે મહારાજ એમના વિષે વાત કરે છે! એમને લાગ્યું કે નક્કી મહારાજ એમને નીચે પડેલું બોર ખાતા જોઈ ગયા હશે એટલે તેઓ આખા ગામને આ વાત કરવા માંગે છે!

આથી મુખીએ મહારાજને ભેટ આપીને ખુશ કરવા નક્કી કર્યું. મુખી મહારાજને મળવા ગયા અને ફળો ધર્યા. મુખીએ વિચાર્યું કે હવે મહારાજ કોઈને એમની વાત નહીં કરે. ફરીવાર કથાને અંતે કોઈએ મહારાજને પૂછ્યું કે બીજે દિવસે તેઓ શેની કથા કહેશે? મહારાજે કહ્યું કે તેઓ ગોવિંદની (ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણની) કથા કહેશે. મુખી ગોવિંદ સમજ્યા કે મહારાજને હજી વધારે ભેટ આપવી પડશે જેથી તેઓ પોતાની વાત ન કરે. આથી મુખીએ મહારાજને વસ્ત્રો આપ્યા.

આવું રોજ થોડા દિવસ ચાલ્યું. મહારાજ ગોવિંદ એટલે કે ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણ વિષે કહેતા હતા જયારે મુખી ગોવિંદ સમજતા કે મહારાજ આ રીતે એમને ધમકી આપે છે કે તેઓ એમની વાત બધાને કહી દેશે. આથી મુખી મહારાજને ફળો,વસ્ત્રો,પૈસા વિ. ભેટ આપ્યે જ ગયા.

થોડા દિવસ પછી મુખીએ વિચાર્યું કે મહારાજ તરફથી મળતી આ "ધમકીઓ"નો અંત લાવવો જ પડશે. કથાને અંતે મહારાજે જયારે કહ્યું કે તેઓ ગોવિંદની કથા કહેશે ત્યારે મુખી ગોવિંદ એમની સામે ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયા.

એમણે જાતે જ એમની વાત ગામ લોકોને કહી. એમણે કહ્યું કે એક દિવસ એમણે નીચે પડેલું બોર ખાધું હતું અને કદાચ આ મહારાજ તે જોઈ ગયા હશે. ત્યારથી રોજ મહારાજ "ગોવિંદના ગુણ ગવાશે, ગોવિંદના ગુણ ગવાશે..." એમ કહેતા એમને ધમકી આપે છે કે આ વાત બધાને કહી દેશે. ગામ લોકોએ મહારાજને પૂછ્યું કે આ સાચી વાત છે? મહારાજ કહે કે એમને તો આવી કોઈ વાતની ખબર જ નથી.તેઓ તો "ગોવિંદના ગુણ" એટલે ભગવાન શ્રીક્રષ્ણની કથા વિષે કહેતા હોય છે.

આમ મુખી ગોવિંદે "બંધ બેસતી પાઘડી પહેરી લીધી"! ગામ લોકો એમની પર ખુબ હસ્યા.

ગુજરાતી ઢોકળા  

એક ગામમાં રવજી નામે એક ખેડૂત રહેતો હતો. એ ખાવાનો ઘણો શોખીન હતો. એની યાદદાસ્ત ઘણી ટૂંકી હતી એટલે એ બધું જલ્દી ભૂલી જતો.

એક દિવસ રવજી બીજા ગામમાં એના મિત્રના ઘરે ગયો. એના મિત્રની પત્નીએ ઢોકળા બનાવ્યાં હતાં. એને ઢોકળા બહુ ભાવ્યાં. રવજીએ ઘરે જઈને એની વહુને રાતે જમવામાં ઢોકળા બનાવવાનું કહેવા નક્કી કર્યું.

રવજી બધી વસ્તુ ભૂલી જતો એટલે સતત "ઢોકળા ઢોકળા..." એમ ગણગણવા લાગ્યો જેથી જયારે એ ઘરે પહોંચે ત્યારે એની પત્નીને શું કહેવાનું છે તે યાદ રહે. ચાલતાં ચાલતાં રસ્તામાં મોટો ખાડો આવ્યો. રવજીએ ખાડો કૂદી જવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો પણ ખાડો બહુ મોટો હતો. રવજીએ પોતાનો ઉત્સાહ વધારવા "ઠેકું ઠેકું..." એમ બોલવા માંડ્યું (એટલે કે હું આ ખાડો ઠેકી-કૂદી શકીશ). રવજી ખાડો કૂદી તો શક્યો પણ પહેલાં શું બોલતો હતો તે ભૂલી ગયો!!

છેલ્લે એને "ઠેકું" શબ્દ યાદ હતો એટલે એણે ઘરે જઈને એની વહુને "ઠેકું" બનાવવા કહ્યું. રવજીની વહુએ એને કહ્યું કે "ઠેકું" નામની કોઈ ખાવાની ચીજ જ નથી. પણ રવજીએ તો દલીલો કરી કે એના મિત્રની પત્નીએ તો "ઠેકું" બનાવ્યું હતું. રવજીની વહુએ એને સમજાવવા બહુ કોશિશ કરી પણ આ તો કાંઈ સમજતો જ નહોતો.

રવજી ઘણો ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયો. એની વહુ બૂમો પાડીને રડવા લાગી. પાડોશીઓ એના ઘરે દોડી આવ્યા. રવજીની વહુ એટલી બધી ગભરાઈ ગઈ હતી કે ઢોકળા જેવી પીળી થઇ ગઈ હતી! પાડોશીઓએ એને કહ્યું કે એને "ઢોકળા" જેવી પીળી કરી દીધી છે. "ઢોકળા" શબ્દ સાંભળીને રવજીને યાદ આવી ગયું કે એ એની વહુને ઢોકળા બનાવવા કહેવાનો હતો! આમ રવજીને શું ખાવું હતું તે યાદ આવી ગયું અને એની વહુએ એને સ્વાદિષ્ટ ઢોકળા બનાવી આપ્યાં!

પોપટ અને કાગડો  

એક બગીચામાં જુદા જુદા વૃક્ષો ઉપર જાત જાતના પક્ષીઓ રહે છે. એક ઝાડ પર એક પોપટનું કુટુંબ અને એક કાગડાનું કુટુંબ રહે છે. એમના બચ્ચાંઓ સાથે સાથે જ મોટા થયા છે. તેઓ ત્યાં જ મોટા થઈને યુવાન બની ગયા. એક દિવસ પોપટે એની માને કહ્યું કે તે નજીકમાં આવેલા જંગલમાં કમાવા જવા માંગે છે. માને ચિંતા તો થઇ પણ એણે પોપટને જંગલમાં જવા રજા આપી અને થોડા દિવસોમાં જ પાછા આવી જવા કહ્યું.

પોપટ જંગલમાં જઈને એક તળાવ કિનારે આંબાના ઝાડ પર રહેવા લાગ્યો. એ ત્યાં મઝાથી બેસતો, ઝુલા ઝુલતો અને કેરીઓ ખાતો. એક દિવસ એણે એના ગામના એક ભરવાડને જોયો એટલે એણે એની માને સંદેશ આપવા વિચાર્યું. એણે ખુબ જ નમ્રતાથી ભરવાડને વિનંતી કરી અને ગાવા લાગ્યો:

"ભાઈ ગાયના ગોવાળ, ભાઈ ગાયના ગોવાળ,

મારી માને એટલું કહેજે, મારી માને તેટલું કહેજે,

પોપટ ભૂખ્યો નથી, પોપટ તરસ્યો નથી,

પોપટ આંબાની ડાળ, પોપટ સરોવરની પાળ

બેસી મઝા કરે".

ભરવાડે એની ખાતરી આપી કે તે ગામમાં જઈને એની માને એનો સંદેશ આપશે.

પોપટ થોડા દિવસ જંગલમાં રહીને કેરીઓ અને મીઠાં ફળો લઈને ઘરે આવ્યો. તે ગાવા લાગ્યો:

"ઢોલિયા ઢળાવો,

પાથરણાં પાથરવો,

પોપટભાઈ કમાઈને આવ્યા,

પોપટભાઈ કેરીઓ લાવ્યા,

પોપટભાઈ મીઠાં ફળો લઇ આવ્યા".

એણે એની પાંખો ખોલી અને એમાંથી કેરીઓ અને મીઠાં ફળો બહાર કાઢ્યાં. પોપટભાઈની પ્રગતિ જોઇને ઝાડ પર રહેતાં બીજાં પક્ષીઓ બહુ ખુશ થયાં.

આ જોઇને કાગડાના કુટુંબે પણ કાગડાભાઇને જંગલમાં જઈને કાંઇક કમાઈ લાવવા કહ્યું. કાગડો આળસુ હતો એટલે એ જંગલમાં નહોતો જવા માંગતો. એની માએ એને પરાણે ધકેલ્યો એટલે એણે રડારડ કરી મૂકી અને દુઃખી થઈને ગયો. એ કાદવ કીચડ વાળી ગંદી જગ્યાએ જઈને બેઠો. એ ગંદકી અને જીવડાં ખાવા લાગ્યો. એણે જયારે એના ગામના ભરવાડને જોયો ત્યારે એની સામે બૂમો પાડીને હુકમ આપતો હોય એમ બોલ્યો:

"એ ગોવાળિયા, એ ગોવાળિયા,

મારી માને જઈને એટલું કહેજે તેટલું કહેજે

કે કાગડો ભૂખ્યો નથી, કાગડો તરસ્યો નથી,

કાગડો કાદવમાં મઝા કરે, કાગડો ગંદકીમાં મઝા કરે".

ભરવાડ કાગડાની ઉદ્ધતાઈ જોઇને ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયો. એણે કાગડાનો સંદેશ લઇ જવાની ના પાડી દીધી.

થોડા દિવસ બાદ કાગડો કાદવ-કીચડ અને ગંદકી લઈને ઘરે આવ્યો. ઘરે આવીને એ બૂમો પાડવા લાગ્યો:

"ઢોલિયા ઢળાવો,

પાથરણાં પથરાવો,

કાગડાભાઇ કમાઈને આવ્યા,

કાગડાભાઇ કાદવ-કીચડ લઇ આવ્યા,

કાગડાભાઇ ગંદકી લઇ આવ્યા".

ઝાડ પર રહેતાં પક્ષીઓ કાગડા ઉપર ખુબ જ ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયા અને કાગડાને ઝાડ પરથી ભગાડી મુક્યો.

જો આપણે પોપટની જેમ સારા અને નમ્ર બનીએ તો લોકો આપણને પ્રેમ કરશે. પરંતુ જો આપણે કાગડાની જેમ ઉદ્ધત બનીએ તો લોકો આપણને પ્રેમ નહિ કરે.

દલા તરવાડી અને વશરામ ભુવા 

એક ગામમાં વશરામ ભુવા નામનો એક ખેડૂત રહેતો હતો. એને શાકભાજીની વાડી હતી. એ ગામમાં દલા તરવાડી નામનો એક કંજૂસ માણસ રહેતો હતો. એ હંમેશા ચીજ વસ્તુઓ સસ્તામાં જ ખરીદવાના રસ્તા શોધ્યા કરતો.

એક દિવસ દલા તરવાડી, વશરામ ભુવાની વાડી પાસેથી પસાર થતા હતા. એમણે જોયુંકે વાડીમાં કોઈ નહોતું. એમણે થોડું શાક ચોરી લેવાનું વિચાર્યું. તે રીંગણાંના છોડ પાસે ગયા. એમણે પોતાની જાત સાથે જ વાત કરી કે ચોરી કરવી એ પાપ છે એટલે એમણે વાડીની સંમતિ લેવી જોઈએ.

એમણે વાડીને પૂછ્યું:

"વાડી રે વાડી!"

પછી એમણે જાતે જ વાડી તરીકે જવાબ આપ્યો:

"હા બોલો, દલા તરવાડી".

પાછા એમણે વાડીને પૂછ્યું:

"રીંગણાં લઉં બે ચાર?"

એમણે જાતે જ વાડી તરીકે જવાબ આપ્યો:

"લ્યોને ભાઈ દસ બાર!"

આમ એમણે થોડાં રીંગણાં લઇ લીધાં અને જાતે જ સંતોષ માન્યો કે એમણે રીંગણાંની ચોરી નથી કરી પણ વાડીની સંમતિ લીધી છે.

આ રીતે દલા તરવાડી દરરોજ વાડીમાંથી જુદા જુદા શાકભાજી લઇ જવા લાગ્યા. વાડીના માલિક વશરામ ભુવાએ જોયું કે દરરોજ એમની વાડીમાંથી થોડાં શાકભાજી ચોરાઈ જાય છે. આથી એમણે પહેરો ભરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.

તેઓ એક વૃક્ષની પાછળ સંતાઈ ગયા અને જોવા લાગ્યા કે કોણ શાકભાજી ચોરી જાય છે. એવામાં દલા તરવાડી વાડીમાં આવ્યા. એમણે શાકભાજી લઇ જવા માટે વાડીની સંમતિ માંગી. પછી જાતે જ વાડી તરીકે જવાબ આપીને શાકભાજી લઇ જવાની સંમતિ આપી.

વશરામ ભુવાએ દલા તરવાડીને પકડ્યા. દલા તરવાડી કહે કે તેઓ ચોરી નથી કરતા પણ વાડીને પૂછીને શાકભાજી લઇ જાય છે. વશરામ ભુવા આવા ચોર પર બહુ ગુસ્સે થઇ ગયા. એમણે દલા તરવાડીને પાઠ ભણાવવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. તેઓ દલા તરવાડીને એક કૂવા પાસે લઇ ગયા.

વશરામ ભુવાએ કુવાને પૂછ્યું:

“કૂવા રે ભાઈ કૂવા!"

પછી એમણે જાતે જ કૂવા તરીકે જવાબ આપ્યો:

"હા બોલો વશરામ ભુવા!"

વશરામ ભુવાએ કૂવાને પૂછ્યું:

"ડૂબકી ખવડાવું ત્રણ ચાર?"

પછી એમણે જાતે જ કૂવા તરીકે જવાબ આપ્યો:

"ડૂબકી ખવડાવોને દસ બાર!"

વશરામ ભુવાએ દલા તરવાડીનું મોઢું કૂવાના પાણીમાં દસ બાર વખત ડૂબાડયું. દલા તરવાડી રોવા લાગ્યા અને વશરામ ભુવાને કહેવા લાગ્યા કે ફરી ક્યારેય ચોરી નહીં કરે.

આમ વશરામ ભુવાએ દલા તરવાડીની જ યુક્તિ વાપરીને એમને પાઠ ભણાવ્યો. જેવા સાથે તેવા!

ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF ABOVE GUJARATI STORIES

Ancient Children Stories Part 1

Father, Son and a Crow

One shopkeeper had a small provision shop in a village. He used to sell things and keep accounts in an account book.

When this shopkeeper's son was a kid, he used to come to the shop and play. There was a tree in front of the shop where a crow was sitting and making noise

“Craw..Craw..”.

The son kept telling his father:

“Dad, see this crow”.

His father kept doing his accounts work and reply to the son:

“Yes my son, I see the crow”.

This was repeated again and again so the father wrote in the accounts book by mistake:

“Dad, see this crow...Yes my son, I see the crow”.

Years passed. The shopkeeper became old and his son became a young man. The son was now sitting in the shop. The old father was sometimes coming to the shop. He kept talking to his son so the son's work was getting disturbed. So the son was scolding his father and asking him to keep quiet. Many times he was even insulting him. So the old father decided to teach a lesson to his son. He saw old account books to his son.

The son read the old account books. He found some writings like:

“Dad, see this crow...Yes my son, I see the crow”.

Now the son remembered that when he was a kid, he was playing in the shop and kept speaking such things. That time his father was replying to him without any anger. Due to this continuous disturbance, his father made mistakes and by mistake he wrote these things in the accounts book.

The son repented that his father had fulfilled all his wishes when he was a kid but now he is insulting his old father and not talking to him. Then after the son never insulted his father and kept him happy.

=> We should never insult our parents. They are always keeping us happy and tolerating our childish behavior. When we grow up and our parents become old, we should also keep them happy.

A Clever Old Woman

In a village one old woman was living alone. She had only one child – a daughter. She was married and living in a nearby village. One day the old woman decided to go to her daughter's village to meet her.

She had to walk through a forest to go to that village. When she was walking in the forest, one lion came and told her that he is very hungry so he will eat her. The old woman was very clever so decided to make the lion fool. She told the lion:

“I am very old. I am very thin. What you will get if you will eat me? Let me go to my daughter's house. Let me eat some good food. I will become healthy then you eat me”.

The lion thought that the old woman is right because if he will eat her now, he will not get anything but just bones! If he will eat her after she comes back from her daughter's house, then he will get some flesh and blood! So the lion allowed her to go.

On her way, the old woman also met a tiger and a bear. She used the same trick and made them fool.

After staying at her daughter's house for some days, she decided to return back to her home. She knew that the lion, tiger and bear will meet her and kill her. So she used a trick and prepared one big round jar. She sat inside the jar and rolled it from inside.

In the forest, the lion saw this rolling jar. He asked the jar:

“Have you seen that old woman who has gone to her daughter's village?”.

The clever old woman changed her voice and replied from the jar:

“Which old woman? Which village? Roll jar. Roll jar...”.

The lion got afraid by this “self rolling” jar and gave the way. The tiger and bear also got afraid.

The clever old woman reached her home safely.

Intelligent Merchants

Some merchants were living in one village. They had to travel to different places to sell their goods. Once they were going to another village to sell their goods and it became very late. They had to pass through the jungle at night in the dark. Some robbers stopped them and robbed their goods.

These merchants were brave and intelligent so they used a trick. They told the robbers that they were very good actors. They can perform a good drama to entertain them. The robbers sat to see their drama.

The merchants started the drama. First they dressed like shepherds and started singing:

“Merchant Actors are coming. Shepherd act is coming”.

They acted like shepherds and entertained the robbers. Then they took different roles of carpenters, shoe makers, blacksmith etc and entertained the robbers.

The robbers started singing and dancing with the merchants. Then the merchants took the role of robbers and police. Some merchants became robbers and some became police. In this drama, they saw that police have to take the robbers to the city. Now the merchants started singing:

”Merchant Actors are coming. Robber act is coming. Run Fast. Run Fast. Go to City, Call the Police”.

Some merchants went to the city and informed the real police about the robbers. The real police came with them to the place where they were performing the drama before the robbers.

Now the merchants started singing:

”Merchant Actors are coming. Police act is coming”.

First came the merchants who were acting as police. So the robbers thought this as a part of their drama. They danced with the actors. Now the real police came and caught the robbers. Still the robbers were thinking it as a part of the drama! The police took the robbers to jail and the merchants got back their goods.

Thus the brave and intelligent merchants saved their goods and caught the robbers. We should not be afraid of a bad situation (like robbery here) but we should be brave to fight the situation and take right decisions with intelligence.

A Scary Cold Water Drop

An old woman was living alone in a village. The village was near to the forest. There were wild animals like Lion, Tiger in the forest.

One day there was very heavy rain there. There was a flood in the river. The water entered the forest so some animals rushed to the village. A Tiger came near the old woman's house. He was hungry so the old woman got afraid that he may attack her. So she started singing:

“I am not afraid of a Lion, I am not afraid of a Tiger. But I am afraid of the Scary Cold Water Drop”.

The Tiger was surprised to hear this. How come this old woman is not afraid of any wild animal but she is afraid of a Scary Cold Water Drop? He decided to meet the Scary Cold Water Drop so he went to the woman's house. He sat outside the door.

The roof of the house was made of tiles. The rain water was falling down from the roof. As the rain had stopped, its water was falling drop by drop. Due to cold, the water drop was very chilled and biting. When it fell on the tiger, he literally shivered with the cold. As the cold water was falling drop by drop, the tiger was scared of its chill and bite. The tiger ran away from the old woman's house. Thus the old woman was saved by the “Scary Cold Water Drop”!

Lazy Pigeon

There was a farm. A Pigeon and a Sparrow were living on a tree near the farm. There was very good crop after a good Monsoon season. The farm was full of seeds for the birds. The sparrow was daily going to the farm early in the morning.

When Crop cutting time came near, the sparrow decided to collect and store some seeds for the Winter. She also asked the pigeon to do the same. But the pigeon was lazy so he was ignoring this. Every morning the sparrow was calling the pigeon to come with her. The pigeon was telling her:

”I am sharpening my beak. So you go and I will come later”.

The sparrow kept collecting the seeds. She told the pigeon that any day the farmer will cut the crop but the lazy pigeon was just delaying and telling:

”I am sharpening my beak. So you go and I will come later”.

One day the farmer cut the crops. The sparrow had collected the seeds but the lazy pigeon could not collect the enough seeds for the winter season.

A lazy fellow has to pay the price! Laziness is harmful for a descent life.

A Dream Saved the King!

One King was ruling a state. Some enemies planned to kill the king. They reached to his palace with a big knife. The king was sleeping in his room. The killers sat hiding outside his room. They sat folding their bodies as there was very little space.

Right that time, the king saw a dream. He saw a duck in the dream. He saw the duck sitting in the water folding his body. The king spoke in the sleep:

”Sitting by folding the body”.

The killers thought that perhaps the king knows they are there.

The killers became alert and started digging the land beneath the room. Right that time the king saw a dog in the dream. He saw the dog digging the land. The king spoke in the sleep:

”Digging the land”.

The killers thought that the king has indeed seen them so they got afraid and started running. Right that time the king saw a horse in the dream. He saw the horse running. The king spoke in the sleep:

”Running Fast”.

Now the killers thought that king will catch and hang them so they left the state forever.

Thus the coincidence of the king's dream with the killers' movements saved the king!

Lucky Pandit Tida Joshi

An astrologer named Tida Joshi was living in a state. He was telling people that he knows everything and he can tell them their future. Somehow he was very lucky so whenever he was telling the future, things used to happen that way.

The king of the state heard about him. The king called Tida Joshi to live in his palace as his reliable worker. The king gave him good salary.

One day the king took Tida Joshi with him to meet the people of the state. They went to a farmer's house for the lunch. The farmer's wife was preparing Rotala (Indian bread prepared by clapping the flour loaf between two palms). Tida Joshi counted the claps so he could know how many rotala were prepared.

The king decided to test Tida Joshi's knowledge. The king asked him how many rotala were prepared. Tida Joshi immediately replied that 13 rotala were prepared as he had counted the claps. The king verified it and became very happy to know that Tida Joshi was true. He gave him a good prize.

Tida Joshi was living and enjoying in the King's palace. One day the king's necklace was stolen. The palace staff searched the entire palace but could not find the necklace. The king asked Tida Joshi to tell where his necklace was. Tida Joshi asked to give him a day's time.

Now Tida Joshi was very much afraid as he did not know how to find the necklace. He could not sleep in the night as he was sure that the king will punish him for telling lie that he was an astrologer. He started uttering:

”Nindardi, Nindardi please come”.

Nindar is a Gujarati word for Sleep.

There was a woman named Nindardi in the palace and she had stolen the necklace! Tida Joshi was calling sleep as “Nindardi” but she thought that he has known that she has stolen the necklace. She came to Tida Joshi and gave him the necklace and begged to forgive her. Tida Joshi could not believe his luck! He took the necklace and gave to the king. The king was very happy and gave him Gold coin.

One day king and Tida Joshi were going for a walk. The king caught a moth and put in his fist. He asked Tida Joshi what was inside his fist. Now Tida Joshi knew that the end of his lies has come! How he can know what was inside the king's fist? He decided to tell everything to the king.

He sang a song:

”Counted 13 Claps,

Nindardi gave the necklace.

O king! Why you want to kill the poor Tida?”

Tida is also a Gujarati word for the moth!! When the king opened his fist he saw the moth (tida) so once again he thought that Tida Joshi has the power to know everything!

Thus Tida Joshi was very lucky every time!

Village Leader and Fallen Berries

In a village there was a farmer named Govind. He was the village leader.

Once the villagers arranged a discourse (katha) in the holy month of Sravan (Hindu people's religious month). People were working during the day and going to the discourse in the evening. A saint was giving the discourse.

One day the village leader Govind was going to his farm. He saw a fallen berry on the ground. He was tempted to eat the berry. He looked in the surroundings to see if anyone was watching him. There was no one nearby so he took the berry from the ground and ate.

In the evening he went to the discourse with other people. At the end of the discourse, someone asked the saint what discourse he will give tomorrow? The saint told that he will tell the story of Govind. The saint meant “Govind” means Lord Krishna (Lord Krishna's one name is Govind). The village leader Govind thought that the saint is talking about him! He thought that the saint must have seen him eating the fallen berry so he wants to tell this story to everyone!

So he decided to appease the saint. He went to him and gave him many fruits. He thought that now the saint will not tell his story to anyone. But again at the end of the discourse, someone asked the saint what discourse he will give tomorrow? The saint told that he will tell the story of Govind. The village leader Govind thought that the saint needs more gifts from him for not telling his story. So he gave him clothes.

This happened for few days. The saint was talking about Govind means Lord Krishna but the village leader Govind was thinking that the saint is threatening him to tell his story to everyone so he kept giving him fruits, clothes, money etc.

After some days the village leader Govind decided to end these threats from the saint. So at the end of the discourse, when the saint said that he will tell the story of Govind, the leader Govind started shouting at him.

He himself told his story to the villagers. He told that one day he had eaten the fallen berry and perhaps the saint had seen him. Since then the saint is daily threatening him to tell this to everyone by saying that he will tell the story of Govind. The villagers asked the saint about this. The saint told that he knew nothing about the leader and the fallen berry. By “Story of Govind”, he meant the story of Lord Krishna!

The villagers laughed a lot at the leader Govind's foolishness.

Gujarati Dhokala

A farmer named Ravji was living in a village. He was very fond of eating. He had short memory so he was forgetting things quickly.

One day Ravji went to another village to his friend's house. His friend's wife prepared Dhokala (Famous Gujarati Food item of Yellow color). He liked it much. Ravji decided to ask his wife to prepare Dhokala for dinner.

As Ravji was forgetting the things, he kept murmuring “Dhokala Dhokala...” so when he reaches home, he can remember what he wants to tell his wife. While walking, one big pit came in the way. He tried to jump but the pit was very big so he started uttering “Theku Theku...” to motivate himself to jump. Theku is a Gujarati word for jump (so he was uttering “jump jump..” to tell himself that he can jump the pit). Ravji could jump the pit but he forgot what he was uttering before!!

After reaching home, Ravji asked his wife to prepare “Theku” for him as he had last remembered this word. His wife told him that there is no food item named “Theku”. But he argued that his friend's wife had prepared “Theku” so she should also prepare it! Ravji's wife tried to convince him that there is nothing like “Theku” to eat but he did not understand at all.

Ravji became very angry and told his wife that he will punish her. She started shouting and crying. The neighbors rushed to his house. She was so much afraid that she became Yellow pale. The neighbors told him that he has made his wife Yellow “Dhokala”! Now after hearing the word “Dhokala”, Ravji remembered that he wants his wife to prepare Dhokala! At last Ravji remembered this and his wife prepared delicious Dhokala for him!

A Parrot and A Crow

In a garden many birds are living happily on different trees. On one tree, a family of Parrot and a family of Crow have nests. Their kid Parrot and kid Crow have grown up together. They became young there. One day the Parrot told his mother that he wants to go to a nearby forest to earn something. The mother was worried but she allowed him to go and come back soon in few days.

The Parrot flew to the forest. He found one Mango tree near a lake. He was sitting, swinging and eating Mangoes. He saw one shepherd of his village so he decided to send a message to his mother. He requested the shepherd very politely and started singing:

“O shepherd friend, O shepherd friend,

Meet my mother, Tell my mother:

Parrot is not Hungry,

Parrot is not Thirsty.

Parrot is enjoying on Mango tree,

Parrot is enjoying on lake”.

The shepherd assured to meet his mother and give his message.

After some days the Parrot came back home with many Mangoes and Sweet fruits. He started singing:

“Please put a Coat,

Please put a Mat,

Parrot brought Mangoes,

Parrot brought Sweet fruits”.

He opened his wings and Mangoes and Sweet fruits came out. The birds on the tree became very happy to see Parrot's progress.

Seeing this, Crow's family also asked Crow to go to the forest and earn something. The Crow was lazy so he was not ready to go. His mother pushed him to go so he cried and went to the forest unwillingly. He sat in a muddy place and started eating filth and worms. When he saw the shepherd of his village, he shouted at him and ordered him:

“O Shepherd, go and meet my mother,

Tell Crow is not Hungry,

Crow is not Thirsty,

Crow is enjoying in Mud,

Crow is enjoying on filth”.

The shepherd became angry on Crow's rudeness so he denied to take his message.

After some days the Crow came back home with mud and filth. He started shouting:

“Put a Coat,

Put a Mat,

Crow brought mud,

Crow brought filth”.

He opened his wings and everything became dirty with mud and filth. The birds on the tree became very angry and threw the Crow from the tree.

If we become nice and polite like Parrot, then people will love us. If we become rude like Crow, then people will not love us.

Speaking Garden and Speaking Well

A farmer named Vashram Bhuva was living in a village. He had a garden of vegetables. One greedy man named Dala Tarvadi was also living in the village. He was always finding ways to buy things cheap.

One day Dala Tarvadi was passing by Vashram Bhuva's vegetable garden. He saw there was nobody in the garden. So he decided to steal some vegetables. He went near the Brinjal plant (also known as Eggplant). He talked to himself that stealing is a sin so he should take permission of the garden.

He asked the garden:

“Garden O Garden!”

Then he himself replied as a garden:

”Yes Dala Tarvadi!”

Then he asked the garden:

”Should I take 3-4 Brinjals?”

Again he replied as a garden:

”Why 3-4? Take 10-12!”

Thus he picked up few brinjals and satisfied himself that he has not stolen the brinjals but taken the permission of the garden.

He daily did this and picked up different vegetables from the garden. The owner of the garden Vashram Bhuva noticed that everyday some vegetables are stolen from his garden. So he decided to keep a watch.

He stood behind a big tree to see who is stealing the vegetables. Dala Tarvadi entered the garden. He took the permission of the garden to take some vegetables. Then he himself replied as the garden and gave permission to take vegetables.

Vashram Bhuva caught Dala Tarvadi. Dala Tarvadi told him that he was not stealing the vegetables but taking permission from the garden. Vashram Bhuva became very angry on this thief. He decided to teach him a lesson. He took him to the well.

Vashram Bhuva asked the Well:

”Well O Well!”

Then he himself replied as a well:

”Yes Vashram Bhuva!”

Vashram Bhuva asked the well:

”Should I sink Dala Tarvadi 3-4 times?”

Then again he replied as a well:

”Sink him 10-12 times”.

Vashram Bhuva sank Dala Tarvadi's face 10-12 times in the well's water. Dala Tarvadi started crying and told Vashram Bhuva that he will never steal again.

Thus Vashram Bhuva used the same trick as Dala Tarvadi to teach him a lesson.
